All the level one surveillance jobs in the police are tested by suitability assessments, mine lasted two days of practical testing skills etc. And then once passed that had interviews, prepare operational orders, presentations and have eyesight and hearing tests.
Once accepted I had to do various levels of courses especially driving I was already response driver and had to do the advanced course too, OP/foot/mobile surveillance with other courses too.
I did some training with Thames valley Police, thats were RMP do some courses too.
