K9medic is on a distinguished road
It is reletivaly easy to check out First Aid at Work Qualifications. On each certificate you will find a HSE registration number, for example 1234/08. This would mean the first aid provider was 1234 company registered with the HSE in 2008. All you need to do then is ask the HSE if this company is still registered (if I remember correctly the Manchester office deals with this) they can confirm if the company is legitimate and their address.
Then simple phone the company up and ask them if they have a record of this student gaining the qualification.
It doesn’t happen often but I have encountered a few forged certificates and sad to say a few unregistered companies over the years.
