Been in essex fire & rescue for the last 5 years, not exactly floating me boat but its a steady job with loads of time off to spend with the family.
Nearly done the task cp course back in 99 as part of me ressetlement but didnt.
I think ive got the bug back, i wrote off to Armor at the end of last year they said that i need to complete a cp course then they would interview me for a position in afghan.
Im after some heads up on pay etc from any of you guys with the experience of cp work also
would it be worth my while jacking in the fire brigade to seek work or would i be able to get some cp work in the uk circuit on me days off from the brigade. many thanks winger
Hi Winger,
I think you are in the perfect position due to your work schedule with the fire brigade to test the water as it were with trying to find work on the circuit. You are already earning so nothing ventured nothing gained. Throwing the job in at present I think would be a little drastic as it is very difficult to get a foot on the ladder (pardon the pun as you are a fireman!) on the circuit in today's climate. You would obviously have to complete a CP course of some description, and I would advise if you take the suggested path then you would definitely need one with the SIA quals because of the requirement for UK work. I am not sure which course would suit you best as I'm on the other side of the world, more local based guys could give you better pointers.

I used to know a couple of ex booties who worked in the London Fire Brigade who took this path, and are now working full time in the Middle East after learning the ropes and networking whilst they were already employed by the LFB.
