Up in the North east we have to wear Lumi Arm bands that have our SIA cards inside them.
They do help in identifying the crew from the croud, but they also tend to have the odd cocky git pulling at them and asking stupid questions.
it might come down to what area and venue in the UK Door staff work as to wether the vest's are appropriate or not.

We have those armbands too. Same stupid git too?? Hmmm.
Also wouldn't the hi-vis jackets cause some confusion for those too drunk or stupid to realise the difference between a copper and a doorman?
Agree with those above regarding pros and cons, Good for identifying/marking colleagues. Definitely.
