Some companies will only accept ex-military on courses as they don't want to go over stuff like radio procedure, phonetic alphabet and map reading for people that haven't done it before. There are also companies that won't give you jobs unless you ex-mil or even ex certain regiments (paras, marines etc.) They seem to think that someone who was a chef in the paras is going to be better than someone with years of experience as a DS.
Some companies, will accept people with previous security experience (some companies will accept anyone). If you don't have military or police experience then getting on a course that has a good reputation will be all important. I would suggest that you contact some of the employers that don't do courses and ask them what courses they rate.
If you see a course you want but they say they only accept ex-mil then email them outlining your experience and skills and ask if they would accept you.
