Hallukka is on a distinguished road
Hello ladies and playboys.

I've been trying to get a Psd/close protection operator job for a while now. It is obviously hard as expected. What I would like to know from experts is that do I even stand a chance with former UK/US military personel? I've done a lot of different courses, some better than others, but there is no use of studying, if you can't use the things you have learnt. a few years ago I was told, that companies were told not to employ finns, because the great nation of Finland didn't support Iraq war. I'm not sure this is true, but then again, I don't know any finnish PSD operators. Basicly, do I have a chance of getting a job with some company, or have I just being wasting my money and should just take off to Foreign Legion or something?

Mate,

All i know on this when working with EODT CET was the company was using an agency to get blokes, for example they sent a swedish chap out he was on $3ooo a month and the agency was scooping the rest, but he was pretty poor standard and left due to the promisies made to him were not met.
sorry if this is a little of topic but watch out for these agnecies.

Hi Hallukka

Is your problem due to the fact that there are not many agencies in Finland or that the agencies in the UK are not recruiting people from Finland for whatever reason?

The market is flooded with people looking for work, all with similar training etc and therefore you do not want to put yourself at a disadvantage because of your location. Therefore, I have a suggestion for you just to have a think about.

I would suggest that you get yourself an address in London, which is easy to do and if you want to go down this route I can point you in the right direction as there are a number of companies who offer this service. This company would forward any post to you in Finland. You can even have a London telephone number, which then diverts to your mobile. I have used this method before in other countries and it has worked for me.

Now of course this is not going to get you a job but it is likely to help

Regards

JHD

Yes and No again..
I am in the same boat as you my friend.
Sweden is not a member of the coalition forces and dont support the war in Iraq, Sweden is not a member of Nato since we are neutral.
Still I manage to get into the Iraq theatre, but did it as a police trainer. Some companies do demand sia license (I know it is a UK/Wales Body certification/License as standard, I have no interest at all about the UK license and standards, I have Swedish and approved European Close protection training thats the standard I care about so I have to look for companies that dont ask for SIA CP license.
I will most probebly never work in Uk with cp and therefore I put the money on other certification (management or risk analyses so I dont get boxed in with just cp(psd)
The American companies ask for US citizenship or at least the majority of them do and I have spoken to the most while searching for work.
The reason is under DoD contract the US Government whant the money to return to USA and spent there..

However there is still companies out there who will hire you, without demand in SIA or US citizenship.
But you have less options, if you marry a US girl and get the SIA license well you have much more options ( making a joke)
And then there is Afghanistan, here for myself Sweden has a present and therefore it is easyier for me, and more and more companies are establishing business there and more options will be available, however if you dont have any hostile environment background it will be difficult, since there are many well trained and experienced operatives out there also searching.
I know from personal experience that UK companies have hired guys with less experience then myself..what the recruiter looks on in the CV I dont know but I found it difficult as well.
Well I have managed to get into both Iraq and Afghanistan, and I dont give up..
If youre into this business for the quick money and experience then do something else..after my first bodyguard course it took me 4-5 years to my first cp task.
2007 and 2008 I was in the shitholes of the earth and had at that point been working in the security industry for 16 years now going for 18 years in April

So things work, but its frustrating when nothing happends trust me we all been there
Keep Smiling
Hawk
