i was at my gp today ref vaccinations for iraq and she was very unsure about what i should be given if someone could please recomend what is needed for my deployment. I have researched some other sites but i feel that it is better to get the info straight from the horses mouth. regards noel

Don't need Malaria tabs or a yellow fever jab, you need the bog standard stuff, Tetanus, etc, check out the FCO website, it's all detailed on there

The problems arise in that there are so many website and so much conflicting info.
HEP B is a good one to get and the triple Diptheria,tetanus, polio is available from most doctors free of charge, just one jab.
Bare in mind the sanitation conditions so cholera may also be wise. A lot of travel pharmacies charge a small fortune for some jabs and you may find that your doctor will write you an NHS script at £7.20 instead of £60.00 like i was quoted for HEP B by NOMAD travel.
If its a course of three injections like HEP B then ask for it all on one script as its all the same inoculation and a complete course. Again most travel pharmacies charge you per shot not per complete course.

Get TB vacination!
I had several members in my Team with TB at VBC.

If you test + for TB down there, you will not get vacation for 6 months! You are stuck there. You have the option to resign.
You have to take heavy TB medication supervised for 6 months.

I had my Hep B before doing my course in SA. My local GP surgery did it for free. Worth asking the GP before spending hard earned cash, I was expecting to pay but didn't need to. Bonus!!!

Well worth checking with your doctor to see what they offer. I was quoted over £200 for the innoculations from a travel pharmacy. So far with my doctor its cost £21.00.

Ha ha ha ha!! The one who gave me my 2nd Hep B jab stuck herself with the first needle! Fortunately before she had stuck me with it! I'm sure she looked to see if I had noticed and she could get away with using it anyway!
