I didnt mean to come across as saying that someone should go into EDD without being certified or untrained, on the contrary. I was just saying that the training and certification has more to do with procedures and safe handling drills related to the finding of the explosives. It may very well also invlolve training the handler to teach him to work with the dog and teach him to read the dog and watch for signs of scent recognition....etc, and teach about how scent works ie: weather conditions, air currents...etc. But if one has experience in, say like myself, in Mantracking on all types of terrain and scenarios ( I wont say where I learned because its not relevant in an open forum) isnt that half the battle? a far as the training goes?
I didn't think for one second you were mate and we have had this chat before ain't we.!!! I think the main reason everyone wants all the certificates and stuff is like I said, to ensure everyone is up to a standard, to get money out of you for training and also all the handlers will try and put you off to keep themselves employed.!!!! At the end of the day, any dog handling you do will hold you in good stead, a dog is a dog, no matter what you are doing with it but hostile environment stuff is a lot different to anything else, purely because of the implications if you get it wrong. As I said before, my biggest problem is people doing a course for a couple of weeks, that anyone can run, then thinking they are the fnished article. It's the same with anything ain't it, you get trained to a standard then you learn the job.

I'll hit you up on the email in a bit mate......... And keep in with mutual acquaintance, he'll keep ya right mate.!!!

Take care
John

Far from an expert mate but if I can help I will, It took me ages to get in over here and it nearly always is through a mate or his mate etc.......
I was in NI for a good while and the biggest difference is that I ain't working with the Army anymore, there you just do your job and we got plenty of support. Here you are usually more than "just" a dog handler and get everything thrown at you, even if it isn't your department you have to deal with it. If you like a challange it's great but if you want a nice easy way to earn your money then this ain't it.!!!!!!! And you get a cracking sun tan.... never got that in Belfast.!!!!!!

scott66 has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I want the challenge over there but i dont have the contacts. I feel i have the experience and the right attitude to work but its getting that first break. I have applied recently for a job with eodt in afgan but it seems very slow with them due to contract issues but im in with a shout. What you could do for me if you know anything going or pm me with companies currently recruiting. It sounds like your enjoying the work.whats your location

adam be very carefull mate about the dog and not having a sia badge ,no badge no work....what ever you do with the dog dont let it off the lead even when out for walks.if that dog bites someone when at work or off duty then the shit will fly..any info you need mate ring up nassdu and they will help.also make sure you have security dog bite insurance for that dog.the last thing you want mate is a dog bite on your had as its a lot of trouble.they will make a claim at you and the dog could bwe put down if its not at its top of its game.sean

Obviously you have no idea about EDD work the search method used is entirly different as are actions on a find but due to security reasons im not going to discuss the differnces on a open forum.I am currently working as a Passive drugs handler and pro active drugs handler and now doing EDD course. All my collegues in the company I work for are assessed but Police dog training schools in whatever discipline they work which involves attending police school refresher courses. If you visit NASDU website u can see that this is going to be the prefered method for private security companies in the future which will hopefully get rid of all those cowboys out there.Like using drugs dogs to search buildings for explosives cause client dont know no different .YES U KNOW WHO YOU ARE>>>
