I've got a big job interview on Tuesday (thank you CP World and diggerg!), and I'm trying to cover all bases. I've got the clothes sorted out (yes, I'll look pretty); what I'm basically after are some "general" tips and hints.
Obviously I've googled and checked out some sites, but I couldn't resist the temptation with so many employers on this forum

What do you really hate/love from applicants? What should I really not do? What should I do? Anything you can think of, really - it'll be much appreciated

Good one mate,

Appearance; as you say you've got the clothes- I always look at shoes when an applicant first enters the interview room, a good suit can be ruined by unpolished shoes.
Attitude: be confident in yourself and your abilities, you need to sell yourself. But don't be arrogant- don't give off the vibe that the interviewer should thank you for turning up. Don't um or errr, if a question is asked give an answer, if it's something you know nothing about don't try and bluff it be honest, but cover it with a willing to learn attitude. Know your CV front and back and also be prepared to answer questions such as "What would you do if...?" they are not designed to trick you, but to test whether you can think out of the box and test problem solving abilities. If there is a test before the interview don't let it get you flustered, keep calm and do your best. Be early, and when you wait sit in a relaxed, but not slouching fashion- when I was interviewing I always looked at canidiates sitting in the waiting area to size up their attitude as they waited. Call the interviewer Sir or Ma'am until told otherwise, or use their surname.

Good luck with the interview.

Do some research on the history of company you hope to gain employment from, it's good to know a bit about them and the people who run/steer it.

Be yourself and don't be tempted to "embellish" any of your past. If the person conducting the interview has a decent level of interviewing experience they'll spot bullshit a mile off.

Take a second or two to think about the question you've been asked and consider your answer. I'd rather know you were thinking rather than just blurting it out. Don't waffle, give the information they ask for and then stop talking.

Sit still, don't fidget, interlock your fingers and put them in your lap if needs be. Maintain eye contact when being spoken too and when you give your reply, don't turn it into a "stare out" contest though.

Good luck mate.
Paul.

Ahh, I'll be sure to have a read there. And do my best at a successful forum search as well
A quick note: I'm using Firefox 3 (on Ubuntu Studio, if that helps) and I can't click on any of the links. I've just tried to access the interview page from the link in the source code and that works, though.

The site helped me as the vacancy was posted on here during a week or two where I was too busy trying to keep my current job (to keep the money coming in), juggling that with spending quality time with the girlfriend etc to look for new opportunities. But then this post came along and made me feel all funny down there... I soiled myself, I applied and a few days later got an interview.
