Todays observer (Sunday 13th Jan 2008) mentions the new possible licensing for investigators,

Although it can only be a good thing in ensuring that investigators & surveillance officers alike that are constantly dealing with sensitive information are vetted & deemed professional, I think it may cause mixed reactions depending on whether people are employees, employers or self employed as it appears that it could be quite costly to be licensed especially if refresher courses are to be brought in every so often.
I personally think that it would be good to show that we can meet the requirements set by the SIA & that people have a good level of competence but I would be interested to see what type of training they would provide & what exactly they would expect from practitioners as private investigation companies & surveillance companies can offer a very wide range of services.
I suppose it remains to be seen!
