It's difficult for me to grasp how any CPO could guarantee the well-being of a client to an acceptible degree without a weapon or weapons. Saying this and knowing mine, what would your Primary weapon(s) of choice be? Lets discuss this for the sake of training and general thoughts on the best way to defend your client in close quarter combat or battle. |

The chosen weapon system should be influenced by the area of operation due to threats presented that may not be specifically directed at the Principal together with those that are. The requirements in Iraq are different to those in South America; Bogota/ Columbia. The HK AG-C grenade launcher attachment on the C8 for instance would probably not be worth carrying in a built up area with a civilian/ innocent background.
Generally speaking I would chose the C8 CQB with Sig 229R backup. Especially with hand guns, it can remain very much a personal choice and what fits best in your hand. I find I can fire the Sig better than the Glock. The .40cal Sig is designed to fire that calibre wheras the Glock is designed the fire the 9mm. The .40cal version cracks the barrel and cannot handle the high pressure. The choice of 'longs' and the requirement for firepower in a covert manner may suggest a specific carry system such as the HK MP5K briefcase or the shoulder harness. Both are effective in reaction times at close range in their own right. Light systems must also be carried and decisions on mounts for the longs and separate carry for the handgun should be made. It must also be remembered that the constant objective is to carry a sufficient amount of firepower and ammunition to extract out of the kill zone. We are not there to fight through. Considerations to grab bags may also be necessary. Ultimately, the choice of weapons carried is dictated by the affecting factors of the operation; area, team size, use of armoured vehicles (for both Vip and PES), and the profile of the operation itself. Ops involving CAT's can utilise minimi's whilst those in an urban, more low profile op may be restricted to handguns and maybe shotguns. The actual topic of this post is more indepth than at first sight, could be viewed as pointless and could also be viewed as 'spotterish'. The overiding factor is to use the tools at your disposal but must remain within the remit of the job in accordance with the area/ threat of operation. Also to add to the discussion,
The law of the country you will be operating in will put a major spin on the issue, like in the UK you would be looking at a long strech......... Something to consider |

Rich and Yoda are spot-on. I operate in Latin America. Each task is managed and equipped subject to varying factors: location, threat, risk, profile, duration, budget, permits etc - oh yeah, and clients wishes etc. .. Not all work is in the home country, so access to your favourite toy is not always a cert. Then carry systems becomes your best friend and "hope" you get to pick a decent toy at port of call (if at all)!
