Hello All,
Just a few pointers for anyone who might be working in Prague in the near future. When we landed at Prague airport we took taxi's to get to the hotel Top tip 1, use AAA taxi's, easily recognisable as Yellow in colour & the drivers are smartly turned out.....no messing around & they dont rip you off! Driving in Prague can only be described as interesting (they are complete nutters & their cars must have optional extras.....such as indicaters!) We stayed in a hotel on the south west edge of the city centre, used pre-dominantly by business people so forighners in business suits are common place. Top tip 2, speak to the Hotel manager, ours was a great help & very, very discreet, we used one of the hotel cars & drivers, (well trained & spoke very good english,) instead of the company that we were going to! For those who have never been to Prague it is split into 2 main areas, old & new town centres. New town centre (based around Wenclesnes Square) is mainly, shops, Hotels, & Casinos, easy access for cars. The Police leave CP teams well alone & co-ordination with location security ensures no problems for vechicles. The Old town is very much the picturesque area of Prague & is aimed more at the average tourist, as such, vechicle access is near as damn impossible, from early morning to late evening the area is full of tourists at this time of year, & i mean jammed, especially the tour groups, it is a warren of small side streets & markets, leading to the main square. We took a full day on the recce just to establish a reasonable plan of the area & exit routes. When it comes to money in Prague they accept Euro's in some shops but mainly they accept cards or CZK, which at the moment is about 30:1 exchange rate. Top tip 3, exchange in country, you get a better deal. As with every major city, they have their fair share of beggers, pick pockets & general oxygen thieves, again the police will happily deal with them (we witnessed someone resisting arrest......ouch!!!) There are a great selection of bars & night clubs aimed at the out of town business community in Prague, mainly based around the hotels, (not strip joints either!!!!) very modern & spacious with a lot of outside seating, If your principal is looking for old world then again you may end up going back into old town. Guy's i hope this may be helpful to anyone working out there shortly! It is only what we found when we got there & how it worked for us. If anyone has any questions please PM me. James Mc |
