By the way, after reviewing both of our short stories, I noticed that once again, I didn't answer your question. Each State has it's own licensing requirements for security and personal protection/bodyguard permits. Like every other country, the regulations are designed to show a "minimum" standard has been met and to get revenue for the state by licensing you. That being said, each state has schools that can take your cash, give you a test and allow you to apply for that license. Pick a State, decide which company you want to work for and go for it.
My explaination was very general, but I think this is what you really wanted to hear. Jerry |

If you believe that your talents should automatically open doors for you, remember: No one is hiring crybabies. If you wish to engage in a round of insults, You'll be hugely disappointed because I have neither the desire nor time to play with you. Either you want advice or you wish make a statement, but most of us here can guess why you aren't working in this industry. It has nothing to do with where you live or your nationality.

Hey Sack105784,
The Close Protection industry in Australia is definately WHO you know, not what you know. I'm in Perth & have been scouting for work overseas for a year or so, I went overseas for training to the UK & the USA for BG & Adv BG courses. Really enjoyed the training as well, got the ticks in the boxes, but still searching for work. I'm sure you know you have to keep current with weapons, fitness & whats happening in the CPP World. Send us a PM & will let you know the courses I did overseas. You are right here in WA you have to be multi-skilled Security officer & your quals would suit ESO / ERT mine-site work. Hope some of this ramble helps....if not disregard Cheers & Stay SAFE |

Is there another "yank" in the room? Going back to the article I wrote to start this thread, it's not the initials that confuse people. It's the ridiculously high number of acronyms and the alphabet soup of initials that cause confusion. Terms such as executive protection, Close Protection, bodyguard, etc. are easy to understand. But when the SIA, DCJS, CJSTC, FDLE, etc., certifies you to do DS, CP, and everything else, a codebreaker could stay employed for years.
Thats a commentary on the industry(law enforcement, military and security) as a whole, not a complaint, just an observation. Let's not read more into it than that. It was done tongue in cheek. Jerry Last edited by jmaccauley; 24-09-2008 at 02:55 PM. |
