Ladies and Gents,
I have my own views on this subject but I would first like to throw this to the floor for debate/comment before I jump in. If attacked by an armed aggressor do you use body cover or not? |

Depends on many things; type of weapon, range, availability of cover, is there a PES...
And define body cover; many ways and means... Simply sprinting away from an attack between the principle and the attacker is a form of cover provided. |

Call me paranoid, living in a move or other; i do not think tactics should be discussed in an open forum.

MTS- thats a fair point. I raised this topic as I'm seeing plenty of BG's on a daily basis at the moment who are not wearing body armour. I know that a lot of companies still swear on body cover but I'm assuming these guys either use other techniques or don't mind being a sand bag. For those not in the know, a high velocity round will go through you and your principle before continuing on its course. If your in a high risk environment wear your armour!
Stay safe. B30J |

Thank God I instruct, I can't think of any circumstance that I would act as a bullet catcher except for members of my immediate family and friends. Celebs, Politicians 'the client' etc ... not a f&cking chance!!

if we are refering to "body cover" as jumping in front of a Vip to protect them
you only end up dead and your precious vip facing a similar fate body cover should only apply in a team , and as a means to getting the vip to the ground and lying on them (keeping them below waist hieght and hopfully below flying bullets) the rest of the team deal with the threat hopfully that makes common sense if you are on your own with your vip then push or bump them out of the line of fire (thats your initial job done) then as a matter of your own survival (as well as your client)............. deal with the threat mabe its just me .......but in worst case senario but we are not employed to die for anyone.......but to keep them alive regards mick |

I have to agree that there are far too many intangibles in this hypotheitical situation. Obviously a high threat detail would be trained in rapid reation drills to an armed aggressor, which may suggest shielding the client, returning fire immediately or seeking cover. These are not operational secrets, but the whole bullet-catcher philosophy seems like a dead-end job. Pun intended.

Encouraging replies so far. It's just that I see so many training video clips on you tube etc that I can only assume there's an awful lot of companies who are still employing the old grab em by the scruff and hold them behind you technique which is all very well if you wear body armour (although I still don't agree with this drill). They don't still teach this do they?
Mick Black- I fully agree with your philosophy. I remember the good old days when any walters who said they would take a bullet for the Vip would be out the door quicker than they could scream MEDIC!!!!! |
