rictrahen is on a distinguished road
Hi everyone,
First of all, sorry if I have posted this in the wrong area. I am currently overseas with the Australian Army and am getting out at the end of the year after ten years in the infantry. I am participating on the Ronin SA CP course starting at the end of next month and then moving to the U.K with my wife and now 6mth old daughter to hopefully make a career in close personal protection in early March next year. I have dual citizenship so that is one less thing to worry about.
I already have some work lined up manguarding high profile jewellers, could someone please elaborate on the term manguarding in the UK. Is this CP work? If not, is this type of work a good foot in the door for networking my way onto the circuit.
Also, can anyone recommend places to live if the work is going to be within London taking into account will probably be on one wage for a while and not really expecting money to be to good when first starting out.
Any advice, tips on marketing myself would be greatly appreciated. If there are any companies interested in seeing a CV, please let me know as it is always good to keep options open.
Cheers,
Ric

Hi Rictrahen,

First ref the term "manguarding", that means security guard.

Once you complete your Ronnin SA course, you will be able to apply for your sia CP licence and that will allow you to work in the UK, no licence no work.

Best thing for you to start doing is go onto the SIA web site and request a application pack and start getting all the relevant paperwork together, so once you finish Ronnin SA course you can send the application of to the SIA, it will cost you £245.00 for the licence and it can take up to 8 weeks to get it, in most cases alot longer.

Most of the work is in London, living there is not cheap and rent will depend on the area you choose to live, once again get on the net and start looking and places to rent, the further out from central London the cheaper it will be, depending on the area.

Hope it helps you, good luck with the course and the future also mate.

Post in the wrong area?! I bearly know how to post at all!
Good luck with your course and your move! I live in Essex, traffic depending, it doesn't take me too long to drive to London although it's easier to get the train which takes around an hour and a half (into the City). Perhaps have a look in Essex, any where along the a127 or a13 has good train links and both those roads take you straight into London, you won't have London living expenses then!
