I realize that you may not have the luxury of time or resources to do this adequately, but I would recommend that you not read an article or a book in order to put on the presentation yourself. This subject is not for amateurs and although I'm sure you have the correct judgement, there is no "one size fits all," solution when taken captive.

Try to get an expert to do your briefing if at all possible.

I think that everyone on this forum would know that there is never a one size fits all solution to any problem, I find that type of comment very generic in itself.

I can also assure you, and those who know me will vouch that I am far from amateur. I do believe in self help, and thus broadening the knowledge base, its these qualities that has got me where I am today. I am sure it wasn't your intention, but you did come across as a little naive when you thought I may base my presentation solely on reading a book.

My research on any subject always comes from many sources, and the opportunity to pose a question on a medium such as this forum to fellow professionals just being one of them. I have received much feedback from many members with professional qualifications on the subject which I have found invaluable, and thank each one for their input. I feel more than capable with my own experiences within my military and private sector careers coupled with the knowledge gained from consulting with fellow professionals to be able to give sound tips to people, who may be faced with the unlikely prospect of capture thus hopefully helping them in what would be a very traumatic ordeal.

I fully understand and totally agree with you that K and R/ Hostage negotiation is a very specialised subject in itself, and that it would take years of training and experiences to become proficient. I think it would go without saying that if faced with the situation then prfessional services should be sought.

I think you may have misunderstood my initial post in that I am only researching on advice and tips on the type of things a hostage could do if faced with the situation, such as and no means limited to how to hopefully bond with a would be kidnapper with regards to subjects one could talk about to appeal to the more humane side of them, things like family etc. and the importance of trying to maintain some form of routine whilst in captivity that helps to keep the mind functioning and lessen the thoughts of hopelessness.

I hope that may have clarified things a little, and look forward to any additional pointers you may have personally.

Steve, I did not intend to challenge your knowledge, skills or abilities. I posted my comments based merely on your query. I often research topics that I may feel qualified to teach if, for no other reason, to get a different perspective on it and to add to my presentation.

I don't know you and apparently you are very well qualified to conduct this briefing with or without my input. However since others may read these threads, they, like myself, may not have interpreted it in the manner you described now.

There is no need to establish your qualifications to me. I'm probably less naive than you suggest.
