yes CQB is part of the package, but only part
train with effective techniques that work and not just look good
make sure they work for you, not others,
adopt 1 technique that works for 10 attacks not the other way round

makes sense doesn`t it

its not the ten thousand techniques that counts its the one technique that is practised ten thousand times

Effective techniques
Hapkido is the choice of the Korean Bodyguards

Series of wrist locks, throws, disarms and many other technques all created by head of the Korean Bodyguards back in 1960 Ji Han Jae.

that style works as the techniques are simple to applie and effective. there is many other style that also help the CQC factor.

Of course hand to hand combat or what is now called conflict management should be part of any security guard, bodyguard, Psd , police mans training!
But people forget that its all about observe&and intervene and by that i mean avoid!!! a good operative avoid a attack by diffrent messures such as dont go into crowds, avoid situations and be aware.

If it does happend nr 2 is escape..get out! with the client under protective ways.
3 CONFRONT when failing 1 and 2..
Here is when you must have some reasonable good skills in fighting..
And I dont mean a roundkick in someones head..use all kind of dirty tricks!

To have a reasonable fit body and be trained in dirty fighting..since that helps you more from the so called street fights that do occur.

I had guys on our courses with strong martial art skills, the good thing is that they are fit and can fight! However the course we tell them to forget what they know!

Have to agree with Hawk, fight dirty and forget the niceties of conflict.

All's fair in love and protecting yourself or a Vip when / if it all goes wrong.

One of the hardest things in CQB is not going overboard and doing to much and getting yourself in trouble. There is self defence and there is a brutal beating of another person. Self restraint and discipline is very hard for some people to grasp.

VICTORMACE will become famous soon enoughVICTORMACE will become famous soon enough
Of course very few formal martial arts are good at dealing with real life savagery, the real street fight scenario. The guy maybe attacking your principle doesn't attack your principle in a formal kata like attack. In my job as a DS my 37 years of Judo has served me well ( and i'm still relatively pretty!!!! ) lol. Its always good to have some kind of formal martial arts training with that comes discipline, then all you need is a good CQC coach to teach you the dirty stuff that works in a real situation.

Excellent points from all. Conflict management is a importent issue while on Duty, avoiding conflict before it happens. In states the US police are trainined not to hit the head becuase of the Legal issues.

Judo is very good . controling take downs and restraint holds after.

Krav Maga is a big no no, becuase its not built for civie life, not unless your into PMC, Psd in high risk areas it is after all a military style.

A Close Protection Combatives Program Geared towards restraint
reactions to simple situations, trainined into the muscle memorie so when you need to act upon a situation, u can use the right force or action need.

Bugging out you princple is very importent but stopping a close incounter is a must. stopping the attack by numbers.

Then you have to look at the situation, are weapons are involved, how many. hopefully before it happens you intel. and risk and threat assassment have evacuation plans.

I like all of you who have a professional perpective and treat their duties with respect train, train and train in order to overcome any difficult situation they might have to deal with. while assessing different threats according always in what environment you work in, an up close conflict with a person pops up in my mind many times so I believe that hand to hand technics is definetly in my training scopes. If you ask if there is a need for years of mastering and martial arts training I would agree that it is not a necessity but you definatly have to train on how you would deal with the real fight that will obviously be quick, violent and dirty.

yup very good well said. practicing martial arts is also good for your health and mentally and physically. It is great for unarmed bodyguarding and armed becuase of use of force so on.

i am not promoting a style or martial arts, even tho its my religon at this stage.
But as a training prespective for those on duty with CP work it is essential to have.

Yes we all AVOID first-ESCAPE if possible-CONFRONT as a last resort and ONLY so we can ESCAPE but as far as the CONFRONTATION is concerned
i can recomend JUDO for grappling and balance
BOXING for balance, stance and striking hard
AIKIDO for avoidance, balance, striking, and training with and for multipal attacks
but the prioritys are(in this order)
MOTIVATION - i know we dont want to be in that situation , but we are, so deal with it with commitment
STABILITY-you cant do anything unless you are balanced and strong

and last because, without the first two it is useless

TACTIC and TECHNIQUE-what your going to do and how you do it-keep it simple and effective

some trainers get these priorities in the wrong order if at all

would welcome views
