Excellent, I say observation & intervention is the protective detail nr 1 focus.
However prepare route plan, identify all IAS, choke points etc..dont help much unless you know what and where to look for it.
If you can detect Surveillance, then you can protect yourself and the client this stage is the ONLY face where you can make a diffrence.
Next time you see them/(surveillance) it will be a attack for what reasons unknown such as kidnapping, killing?

Security awareness and Surveillance Detection will save you.
