Personally I wouldn't touch anyone who's recently gone through Task training.
After being the ONLY credible traning organisation (early - mid '90's) they have now turned into a sausage machine, and some of the operatives that Task have passed that have worked for me, have been nothing other better than useless, that's if I could understand a word that they were saying (Note to Task - PLEASE make sure that our former Eastern European cousins can speak and understand English bfore you award then with the sia License..!). |

Caz - you were - and are - an exception.
I don't care who has bought out who - I want trained operatives on the ground who have some common sense, who know what they are doing, who undeRstand that the day is over when the TL or the client says so, and who I can understand when I am having a conversation with them. Oh yes - and taking pictures covertly of the principal and the principals party isn't in my book of CP or RST protocal, and lying about it when questioned puts the icing on the cake. Neither, as TL, do I want my decisions or instructions ignored, contradicted, or questioned unless their input is requested. That's why I am the TL. And that's not just for my benefit, but for the benefit of the principal, who's first language isn't always English. |

Is this just an issue with Task students or is it an industry wide problem, where certain idividuals are licensed but not necessarily suited for our line of work?

i think it's industry wide, door supervison certainly has it's fair share.
some people are attracted by the money and the ego trip and not intrested in being professional! JJ_ADAMS statement sums it up! |

I am finding it to be industry wide, but Task, who I used to rate as being the best, is just not cutting it anymore.
Training companies are sending ex taxi drivers, gym monkeys, nail technicians and hairdressers out into the CP world, clutching their bit of plastic from the sia, and people like me with over 12 years experience in the civilian security sector are then nurse-maiding these individuals through the the job, basically giving them on the job practical training, which as a TL or the person managing the job - and I mean the whole job - I need like a kick in the arse. At the end of the training course, the instructors should ask themselves "would I want this person standing next to me on a job?" and if they reply "yes", then they should be ashamed of themselves. In the last 2 years I have had to fire at least one person on each contract because they haven't got a clue. Everyone can pass an exam through death by view-foil or powerpont, or God forbid, a correspondence course, but I need people on the ground who have done more than a couple of practicals run by people on the inside who have a financially vested interest in these people passing their course. It's people like me who when hard on the ground, running the jobs as well as being the PCPO, are then running around looking after and checking up on these people. The end of it is that when I find out where they have done their training, I NEVER take anyone who has been through that company again, which is a shame for the few decent ones that are motivated and are more than capable. I'm sick of these training companies pushing out wannabes who have no idea of the drill, haven't got a clue about what a chain of command is, can't think on the ground, and haven't got a cell of common sense between them. Apart from it being dangerous, it makes me look bloody unprofessional. This you cannot teach, it is something that is instilled into you over long periods of time, that's why the professional ex military personnel are normally the prefered option (and by ex military - I mean people who joined when the military training was what it should be now..!) GOOD operatives are now like gold dust, and to be honest, I may start to look overseas for team members, at least I know that their licenses are credible, and they don't need the sia License to work in this country, despite what anyone says. I'd rather work around the system than employ what a lot of UK training companies are sending out. I also want mature, experienced, presentable personnel with a sense of duty, who get on with the job at hand. I am also reluctant to touch anyone who's under 30 years of age. If anyone who runs a training company is reading this - feel free to contact me - even if it is to re-assure me. But beware, you'll have hell of a job doing it...!! |
