Shakespeare,
I address this partly to you in response to your reply to N/A on this thread but also as a general statement. I have watched with interest your posts, and yes I am the first to admit that you have an eloquent way of speaking, a humorous wit at times and have provided this site with countless jobs from various websites of which you have used your own precious time to do so and we are all appreciative. I do however notice your tendency to be rather pessimistic and disillusioned with the industry as a whole and seem to focus this towards the new operators and those thinking of entering the industry. I do wonder is this your way of testing the resolve of the new operators in this industry or if this is your genuine view, especially with your desire to instigate a union which you state is in the best interest of the industry. Can I ask if this union is purely for the benefit of the current operators or also for the ones of the future, be they civilian or ex military as you seem to be trying to dissuade new people from entering the industry with this post? Now as a new kid on the block I may be cutting my own throat with this but I will take the chance. I realise you are simply attempting to give the cold hard truth of the situation but this is your truth and not necessarily accurate, there is no point in giving false hope to anyone I agree with that but you are not presently aware of this persons qualities and skills and dedication as you have no idea of mine or others. There are opportunities for civvies in this industry as numerous people have and will continue to prove. The dedication that people put into their training and developing their skill set matters not whether they are military or civilian. There are some of us civvies out there that will simply not be dissuaded, it is our goal to gain the respect of those we respect in this industry, and of course make a decent living, eventually!!!! I respectfully remind you of one of your recent posts where u criticised someone for making a statement on the basis of their own personal experience alone. Is it not entirely possible that civilian operators are getting work out there and you just may not be aware of it? Quote: ‘There is NO WORK. Especially for civvy's.’ Can u truly say that with complete authority, I may be wrong but my assumption would be no, if I am incorrect in this statement then please accept my apologies. My post here is born from watching with interest your posts which on the one hand can be a very positive influence but can also fly to the other end of the scale. I now refer to another one of your recent threads in which you gave a long list of guidelines to the new guys coming into the industry, can I ask you was that directed at solely ex-mil? There have at times been comments on the quality of operators flooding the market and as a new person to the CP market it is the experienced operators I look to for guidance and education once the training courses have ended, and a lot of that guidance I glean from members of this forum for which I must thank them for. If the quality of new operators is in need of improvement, then not only does it fall to us to show our commitment to our craft but it falls to the experienced operators out there to lead the way. The idea is not to give false hope, we are all aware how tough it is out there, the idea is to encourage and pass on your knowledge to the next generation and there will always be a next generation. Quote: ‘Of course the Training providers will tell you different’Not all training providers do go down the route of guaranteeing work. I add a quote from a letter I have recently received from a training provider and operational company ,‘I cannot and will not promise you employment at this time’ I would also like to point out that I have in fact had offers of employment from those I have trained with, they did however make no such promises during the training, how rare that is I cannot say but I am grateful to them. I would like to think, and I know for a fact with the training providers that I have used and am using in the future, that they take their craft too seriously and are too dedicated to producing a quality of operator that they themselves would work with, to churn out BS. In response to N/A may I wish you luck with your chosen path, may I suggest that it is your time, dedication and commitment to what you are about to embark, should you decide to go down this route, will be what makes you a success or not. There will always be more negatives than positives in taking on this career choice but it is your choice whether or not to try and push past them. The competition will always be fierce and the base of it is that we all need to make a living, so it is a big decision as to whether or not to commit to this path. May I also say that this is one person’s opinion and in no way designed to provoke. |

Very well put KATE good on you ....... pessimism and doubt are not qualities we would wish to train and wish to see in an operator.
I am reminded of a quote ' 'in the end the man that wins is the man that thinks he can!!' morrigan

It have never been easy not even 15 years ago..
I had alot of guys in the past on my courses (IBA/Heimrisks) and the majority of people think its a bodyguard job waiting after a 5 day basic course..its not..maybe not even after 300 hours, and several other courses, it took me some 4 years untill I was out on my fiRst real bodyguard job, protecting Ricky Martin in Stockholm and that job cost me more in expensives to get there then I earned on the job..but it was a line in my CV! Next I was sitting in Copenhagen doing RST for the Saudi Royal family.. and still I fight for jobs..thats how this industry is... train, train, train, and network...work in the security industry just to get the years up in your CV 10 years as a security guard is better off then 10 years as a forklift driver if you whant to operate in this industry Its know getting harder, since more people is trained and so..but also people has their licenses revoked, find other interest and unfortuable get wounded or even worse .. If I have done it, I say...others can too.. its just you have to be ready for a life battle but also why we do it? well I could have done other things ofcourse...but we burn for this, its who we are..and we do this best.. Why be second in another industry, when your heart is set for this.. If we could laufgh little I wish I was a porn star in Hollywood, or a Formula 1 driver, or something else...life might be easier...but its not... hawk |

However, as a good indicator of market strength and possible supply/demand I suggest persons thinking about entering this industry try a test CV? Complete a CV with the training course completed, email to every recruiter in the UK and post the results? Many won't reply, some will offer to place on a database, maybe one or two will offer an interview. Possibly one may offer a job...but in today's market I can't really see it happening. The season is about to finish, and the competition will be the many hundreds of experienced CP's looking for a winter slot. Another method could also "quickly" form a "CP" website and pay for a top slot on google (pay per click)....If you haven't recieved over 100-200 CV's within the first week I would be very surprised, and 50- 100 Cv's weekly thereafter. look through the Cv's, you will see 70% of them have over 5 years experience. There just arent enough jobs to go around. Please understand I am not being negative, just stating the facts. As a female (just presuming as you are called "Kate", but I could be wrong.... )you will have an advantage as there are less of you in direct competition, but you will still be up against experienced female operators.I fully understand the "Always look on the bright side", but quite frankly a good bit of luck and who you know is the way forward. If you do not already know someone who is actively working (and has been for some time) in this industry the going may be too tough financially. Many newbies drop out after failing to secure a decent paying role within the first 3-6 months of completing training. I wish you all the best, but I like to state the facts and reality of the situation in today's market so that many newbies don't get taken for a ride. Good that my boss told me about those 200 after I got the job, not on the interview because I would probably stress my ass off LOL ![]() Competition is good, and for me personally motivating, I have never feared the interview, I only feared not getting to the interview, especially because [real life example] somebody "openminded" at recruitment agency thought/assumed that as I'm from Eastern Europe then probably I don't speak the language, must be poorly educated, and somebody wrote a CV for me because it looks too good... [no comment] But as some people say "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", and I prefer to say that you learn more from the fights you lost then from those that you have won.
