I have now got my CP course sorted and have also got a tachtical firearms course as well as a MIRA (medicine in remote areas) course lined up; and will look at doing further med courses in the future.

I have been thinking about travel and expedition security following a recent conversation.

Does anyone here have any experiance of this?

I'm thinking of things is remote and or risky areas, such as Long Way Down (& Round), tv doumentary crews, academic research teams etc

I have some experiance of "expeditions" having been part of teams that have summited both Aconcagua and Mt McKinley for charity, and have competed in the Marathon des Sabled (didn't finish) and have recently been asked by a former TA friend to joina team climbing Mt Elbrus in the former USSR, in an agrs the FCO strongly advises against traveling due to the risk posed by local rebels; and it got me tihinking................

Although I have not been involved on taking media teams around the world making exotic documentaries I would suggest that the trip is quite as hazardous as they make out....
Having working in the entertainment indusrty I can assure you the only crews that rough it are wildlife ones!!!

That said, as part of my job, I provide threat assesments to groups buyers who often head to places fairly remote (pakishtan for rugs etc) on a fairly regular basis..

What sort of info are you after?

Hippy,

Apart from the FCO homepage, do you know any other sites that do risk assessments / threat assesments for the middle east?

The best way to keep up to date is to join a couple of good news groups, such as Reuters.. Between them and the FCO, you should be able to keep a good picture of any given region... When a trip starts to firm up, begin more in depth study...

Ok,
Have you used any risk assessment companies? Like armour group, Anvil, global risk?

Ok, I was after some region specific information. Most sites, including the FCO, only do general country based info. Guess I am the worlds greatest cynic..lol
I keep questioning how updated and independent the information really is.
Seems like FCO and the rest of the sites use the same sources (or the same analysts..)

What program do you use for your reports? excel?

Thanks for your reply; I'm really looking to find out if there are oportunities for employment providing this sort of security provision.
I am aember of RUSI and Royal Geographic Society in the hope of finding information and oportunities; but thought my background skill and experience would lend itself to this type of security work.

Thanks.
