What is sophisticated to 1 is not to another CPO. I've seen guys and girls baffled by secure comm's, normal comm's, satellitte comm's, GPS, night vision, cctv (monitors & PTZ), giving sets, intruder alarms permanent and tempoary. It is all down to a full induction brief/training. I'm sure some surprising items of equipment will come up in this thread. Hope this answers your question to a degree.

I would imagine the most sophisticated device is the cpo's brain as, without the ability to think quickly and calmly, the whole thing could go down the tubes!!!! All the techy shit in the world won't make a bit of difference if the guys on the team are not able to adopt, adapt, improve pretty sharpish when needs arise.

I believe Paladin got the answer, especially when it comes to adopt and adapt skills. I had recently worked with a CPO with a course in israel who knew his drills and was following them at all times. Probably was a good trainee and i am sure he loved what he was doing. but when it came to adopting some changes our team had made for practical reasons and adapting to the principles needs ... well that was a different ball game. a well tuned mind is the most important device for a CPO. I believe that the difference shows up when working Business CPO as opposed to high risk protection in hostile territory where you work full tactics. working with the principle and maintaning the proper security level is always a challenge!

If you get caught carrying clever bits of kit in your luggage on arrival in country, the job (and your Principal) my be well and truly compromised. The same goes for paperwork.
Border Guards will want to know why you have Military/Para Military/Security type plans /itineraries.
At the very least, they might want you to pay 'Tax' on the income you are earning on their turf.........
If it's not absolutely vital to carry it, don't.Buy stuff locally and dump it when the job ends.
I once arrived in Africa during the monsoon with a green Beanie hat in my bags.Ended up accused of being a mercenary as the hat was judged to be 'military kit' and a prohibited import...
