Thanks DSJB. I have since read that Spanish is worthwhile in terms of latin american work. Would you agree?

Depends on what type of work you are looking for. I wouldn't suggest spending £100's on a course in Spanish then in the summer start applying for work in Afghan or Iraq.

The most useful would be Latin based ( Italian, Spanish and Portuguese ) and French. If you want to diversify, then Russian, Arabic and if you want to stand out in the crowd, Chinese or Japanese ! Not many of them around.

Espanol es moi bien para trabajo en Central America, uno problemo, no mas trabajo aji en Central America.
Good language to learn, the problem being that there isnt much work out here for people without the right experience and background, and even then it is still hard as the dialect changes from region to region.
Like Paddington said no good learning Spanish then going for an interview with a company that works mainly in the Middle East.
However it does show that you have an ability to learn languages, something that not everyone can do!!

Lo mas trabajo en pias centroamerica se hace para los Americanos Gringos !!

There was an urgent call for spanish speaking CPo only two weeks ago. I think with the European community growing and business expanding more to our neighbours, I'd still say go for italian, spanish - if you have a french basis already, then that's a good start.
Anything else is just good fun and a challange.
