Point to note- future developments.
As you know most Armoured vehicles are over 3.5 tonne, which means they fall into the LGV category. As of 2009, anyone getting a new driving licence for HGV require a Certificate of professional competence for HGV driving. After 5 years (2014) anyone having an HGV licence must undertake the CPC training to drive HGV for a living. This training must be updated every 5 years
The exceptions are the usual- armed forces, police etc, and specifically those people for whom driving is not their primary employment, and the Gov Transport web site gives a specific example of a builder driving a truck with bricks in it to his job area. Since driving the truck is not his primary trade/ employment he does not require CPC. However if he was a builder and a deliverydriver for tesco in his spare time, he would.
This would mean that BGs could drive Armoured vehicles with the necessary LGV licence entitlement, and not need CPCas their main job is BG, but the specified drivers or PES could not.
be mindful that it may be necessary to prove that driving is not your main employment.
