I may be wrong here, but I believe if you can show that you have been performing the necessary functions/core competencies that the SIA are looking for, then you don't need to sit a refresher.

Like I say, not sure, but a little voice at the back of my head seems to recall hearing that.

I think you still have to do the 3 day refresher no matter what you have been doing since originally gaining SIA license. The trick is to provide documentary evidence (ie training records) to show that you have done a certain amount of hours 'on the job'.. If you dont then you will have do a complete CP course which will cost you several thousand instead of a few hundred quid. Like pedroclan, I cannot be 100% sure but you should check SIA website/or phone for advice. Hope this helps.

We're now into the first year of renewals for the SIA door supervisors badge, and although the SIA wanted a refresher or retest completed, all the awarding bodies ( C&G, Excel etc ) refused to issue a certificate for a course already completed.

The spin was that the awarding bodies asked the SIA to write a new course, but as they are not a training centre, only a 'monitoring body' they were unable.

The only instruction for the holding of a CP badge is that 150 hour or more have been completed. The first wave should be due 2009.

At present there is no policy laid down by the SIA for CP renewals to do anything with regards to refresher courses or otherwise.

What they have said though, is that you need to be keeping evidence of your Continued Personal Development (CPD) and be able to evidence this to a training provider when they do figure out what they want to do with us come renewal time.

My feeling is they will probably do very little for the first lot of renewals, exam at worst. However they will have a policy sorted for the second time round, so it is imperative that you keep everything you do, recorded under a personal CPD file, with names / dates / tel numbers etc prior planning and all that.

If this changes I will post to that effect soonest.

Cheers.
