After lots of research and contact from other members, I have decided to with the Longmoor Group for SIA CP training. They offer a reasonably priced 4 week course with first aid, some driving and firearms included (around £3600).
Chris Brice (the MD) has been exteremely helpful and myself being non-military, I like the RMP/Police tactics of 'get out of there fast' more than the 'stand and fight' techniques sometimes taught elsewhere. They also had a refreshing view on legitimate and legal CP work, avoiding some of the 'grey areas' that can arise with celebrity work. I hope the course likes up to my expectations! I am hopefully on the Mar 17th to Apr 14th course so it would be great to hear from any other attendees! Likewise, if anyone has attended the course, please let me know your about your experience and success. Regards DERMI Last edited by dermi1; 11-02-2008 at 08:01 PM. |

hows it going, im trying to get the funds together for this course as well in march. I am booked on it anyway.
I went to their open day and thought it looked great. I have also noticed alot on this forum jobs for ex RMP CP and feel that the instruction would be top notch. I am not ex military, well navy if you can count that. I was a cop in Australia for 5 years. I alway felt this background would hold me in good stead for becoming a CP. Since finding this site and reading trhreads everyday i feel somewhat inferior and now a little worried that after spending 4000k on a CP course, not being able to get work. I initially wanted to work overseas in higher risk areas but feel i wont be qaulified enough even with longmoor training. it sounds like there is a lot of ex army guys with operational experience looking for CP work, Still, its what i want to do so it may be worth the chance. Anyway may see you on the course |

G'day sport! (how much does that annoy you ..LOL)
Having the Ex Police background is a real bonus and do not sell yourself short mate. Having this background gives you alot of skills that are transferable into a PPO role. Communication skills, organisational skills, interpersonal skills to mention a few. What you mentioned about high hostile areas is quite correct. There are alot of Ex forces...i say alot......a more accurate reflection is the market is quite possitively saturated with Ex forces not to mention Civ lads with a lot of tours and time served in the middle East. It is a very hard market to break into with your background but i'm sure you will be okay. Just keep at it and you will soon get 'your foot in the door'. Best of luck. CM |
