Over a couple of beers the other night we got onto the subject of Medals and the priviliges that come with them?

Now im not 100% about one of the lads claims. He reckons if you get a mention in despatches you are entitled to 1000 pounds per annum for the rest of your life?

Now personally i think thats bollocks........can anybody confirm or refute this claim as ive placed a wager of a few ciders and being a jock i'm not wanting to cough up!!

Secondly if you earn a VC you are given a Lt Col as a PA? Not sure on that one either?

Help us out as im not wanting to get the next round in LOL

There is an annual payment for winning the VC, at present it amounts to about 1400GBP's I think. It's all related to the original awards given out in Queen Victoria's time I believe? As for the remainder, keep off the cider CM.Neil

Is it correct that an officer salutes a VC holder prior to the VC holder saluting the commissioned officer?

according to a source who has mounted medals and worked with the army for 25 years the mention of money is ballocks but the saulte part is correct
