Hi,
I have experience in the forces and 10 years experience in the Counter Terrorism Unit and Ministry Of Defence Police. However I contacted Control Risks last week reagarding one of their courses, they tried to sell me their courses and on the other hand they say I have not got enough experience to do Hostile Close Protection Role with them. Yet a friend of mine with exactly the same amount of experience got a job in Basra last year? Before I part with Money, I want to ensure I am able to get employement-I fully understand that the market is satuated with qualified personnel, but are there any opportunites beside Iraq for work in Close Protection? I was a Firearms Officer at a high level and did escort duties in the Uk for the Ministry Of Defence, basically I am serious about doing a course with Ronin this year, but want to know with hard work via networking, what other opportunites are out their. I do have 2 very good contacts in the field, who have said they would help me find work within the Industry. What are my chances? I would like some good honest feedback please. Regards Andy |

I wouldn't say he was sas!! Anyway, CRG talk bollocks. I'm ex RMP CP and spent 2 years in the sand. When they called me they said i needed to do their hostile course.......that made me laugh. Its a money spin off for them. I know ppl who a cpl of years ago were not even ex forces and were working in the sand for them. Read some posts on here, there is some good information about courses, and with your knowledge and limited experience other companies will take you on.

Andy i can't understand experience thing taking it you are ex 23 sas (TA) so know you lot serving with regulars all time as worked with some in afghan. That does not sound write contact them again or maybe have look at your CV they may have mis read or something. I know for the FCO contract they only take guys on who have served in Iraq or Afghan and the Hostile Enviroments you have to do is a FCO demand. the FCO used to fund it but CRG do and the way they do is you pay deposit and if you pass you get work and rest the course money owed comes out first pay.
But you can only do course if you are CP trained. But still they not really except you unless you done over 8 years in military and worked in Iraq or Afghan for the FCO contract. |

Once again - a typical example of the SIA's negative effect on our industry....
Ignoring SIA Training / Licencing facilities that act in their own best interests - not that of the industry.... It's all about the money! Remember guys & girls.... the Hague is preparing an 'internationally recognized' CPO licence.... and some present European 'Permits' will be recognized by the new standard..... unfortunately the SIA appear to have failed in being recognized by it.... Not so long ago the UK / PBA was the "Worldwide recognized CP Licence".... now it seems you will be 'shut-out' .... Last edited by SH4DOW; 22-02-2008 at 11:39 AM. |

andy
your experience is what they look at but it has to be recent........ hecpo is a requirement by fco , but i'm sure you can save money and get work elsewhere , it is a money spinner for crg, doing whatever in the uk is one thing but having been in country with whatever outfit is another and that is what they look at. best of luck and say hello to (h) if he's still serving .... cheers |

I realiy appreciate all the feedback from everyone. Like Control risks, most say recent experience, however my best mate got a job with them and he did not have any recent experience, he had been out of the forces for 13 years.
Is it worth me doing the Ronin Course? and who may be interested in my experience and knowledge? Regards Andy

Andy, YES Ronin SA is worth it, any training you can do to keep on the sharp edge of the blade is worth doing.
Try at this stage in your professional development to focus on getting the most out of a training package AND then look at employment opportunities once you have a better grounding, knowledge, made contacts and confidence to approach the big boys to secure a 'dash for the cash' Last edited by Edelweiss Tactical; 23-02-2008 at 06:51 AM.
