Everyone should be aware that working outside the UK in the private sector is a profitable but troublesome area.
As with the UK and the sia - other countries also have a governing body and Licencing requirements. If for example, you are working for a UK company that sends you to Spain - you would be working illegally if that UK company is promoting services in Spain. If a UK company has an office in Spain, they are obliged to register and gain licence under Spain's legal system. The same goes for many other countries... if you offer / promote services in any particular country - the security company is required to hold the required National Licence relative to that country... and use personnel with the same. Remember guys & girls - the sia licence you carry is not recognized by foreign governments in most environments. ** the result is that the local Police can arrest you whilst on duty... leaving your 'valuable client' unprotected and somewhat embarrassed... followed by a lengthy investigation and heavy fines. Thoughts ??? Last edited by SH4DOW; 25-02-2008 at 06:52 PM. |

Thanks Hippy - that's correct for 'legitimate' operations with enough 'planning-time'. All Governments will give consideration to foreign security teams requesting authorisation.
But not all requests / offers are from establish or licenced Security Agencies. British CPO's should be aware that both the 'local contractor' and the CPO themselves, are responsible for ensuring they have either Governmental authorisation or the respective legal licence required to operate in the country in question. Simply turning up / being invited to a foreign 'location' with an sia Licence is a fast-track' path to problems. Local 'legal' suppliers will be all over them like a nasty rash... and so will the authorities... Last edited by SH4DOW; 26-02-2008 at 02:35 AM. |

For example, if you like to work in germany, you need to have the chamber of commerce license called IHK§-34a, but if you work here for maybe two weeks its not neccessary to have this license as long you cleared that with the government. But you need this license if you work permanent in germany.

totaly agree, next thing is the sia license is a better qualification then the german chamber of commerce thing. But the IHK (Chamber of commerce) earning a lot of money for the courses and license and they donīt want to accept other qualifications because think they loose money. Its allways hard in this industry because every european country got their own regulations.

Not only is the sia not recognized - there are ongoing discussions in the Hague for a universal EU licence....
Some present EU members licences will be recognised - but the execs at the SIA have failed 'you' by failing many times to gain recognition in the EU... Last edited by SH4DOW; 26-02-2008 at 05:17 PM. |
