I have to say, i'm torn between onion rings and garlic bread, you cant beat the crispy batter of the onion rings but also the finer merits of using garlic. I think i'll go for the onion rings as it does'nt fill me up for my main course and goes with nearly every meal, and is readily available in most restaurants in one form or another. This does beg the question though, what the fuck are we talking about???????? And what is you favorite potatoe? For the record though its maris piper |

hmm my preference would be a steaming dish of Pomme Dauphinouse topped with a light gratin Gruyere. :-)

Onion Bhajias served with pompadoms and yogurt and mint dip or a gratin of garlic portobello mushrooms sautéed in butter unless I am "orp north" then its nothing more sophisticated than tomato sauce for dipping my black pudding and scraps in!
Edelweiss, you obviously get paid to much with that poncey affair ha ha! I am beginning to wonder if in fact you are really Lloyd Grossman

Nomad, if you're going to get northernist get your facts right. We prefer brown sauce to tomato. We'd never put either on black pudding. Black pudding is part of the main meal, not a side dish. The nearest we get to a side dish is bread and butter on the edge of the plate to make chip butties out of.
And its 'Up North'. At least we pronounce our vowels correctly! |

Depends if you are from Middlesborough then "orp north" is correct! Black pudding has to be the main meal they don't even slice it just chuck the whole thing in batter and fry it but does taste nice though. I know quite a few northerners that prefer tomato sauce to brown, even dated one for a bit. The only thing that was a side dish was the sauce or Yorkshire caviar (mushy peas to the people that did not understand that) if it wasn't smothering the chips, still that was quite a refined chippy in Darlo! I am sure you must be of the educated class of the north, unfortunately I mixed with the lower end of the class structure
