I finished my CP's course in Dec 07 and started the application process in Fev/08 when I received my certificate. I am not applying for jobs because... AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED YOU NEED TO HAVE A LICENCE NUMBER BEFORE SENDING YOUR C.V. OUT..

How come there're guys in here saying that got a job offer and this and that... right after they finished their course..?! What's the freaking licence for then..?

Hi Mate

it depends where the contract is based as to the urgent need for the sia license, also it depends on which company you did the course with as some courses are held in higher esteem as others and so for the instant the hiring companies are happy enough with that as long as you get the license at the earliest opportunity .

Best

In response to A 5955, I did the course with Task International. I didn't apply for any company out there, even though they were kind enough of giving us enough names to start with, but I figured that no one will actually see you for an interview if you don't have the actual badge on you. It means that all the checks have been done and approved.... so, it actually makes me very uspet that there're companies hiring people without the sia licence... ?!

If a company has Approved Contractor Status for the relevant sector this means that they can employ people on a License Dispensation Notice once they have applied for their license. There is a list of ACS companies on the sia website. However some clients will still demand an actual license.
It seems licenses are taking about 4 months at the moment. It would be best to start applying for jobs then when you get turned down for lack of license you can sue the SIA for loss of earnings.

Am beginning to agree with Sunray (JS) on this one!!! Have heard a considerable rumbling that the sia license will be amalgamated / superceded with a euro-wide license in the next 3 years (if it is just a rumour then its a bloody good one). I have chosen not to do mine just yet and instead am doing a firearms and medic course which is worth more to me workwise. The SIA will only be worth it then if its folded many times and pressed into your body armour.
You did possibly one of the2 best courses on the market mate... get your CV out now!! Even if you dont get the job... your NAME is out there and companies do talk to each other.
Good luckmate

As I mentioned in another posting a few weeks back - the sia have failed to satisfy the Hague on a number of occasions (in reference to a Euro-wide licence). My source sits on 'The Hague' and reports that there will indeed be a Euro-Licence, where certain EU members will benefit from automatic recognition..... the SIA are not one of these!

- dont hold your breathe !
