I am Para Regt, not Rmp, but have the highest regard for RMP and have worked a number of times with you guys. But with no disrepect meant or intended to anybody I have to say that I am getting a bit pissed off with reading so much about Longmoor.
It is geting where just about every thread mentions something about them and in fact having just done a search they have been mentioned in 127 posts. Now this may well be because they are the bees knees and yes we know that they are bloody good but it is starting to get a bit repetative reading the same name over and over again. I am starting to feel that as a TL, if a team member turns round to me on a job and mentions this name I will scream. Please tell me you are not all working for them ? |

Is it Longmoor or the The Longmoor Group that's causing the problem?
Longmoor is where Rmp CP is based, The Longmoor Gp are the commercial CP/Trg company set up by a couple of ex-RMP bods... I only ask as I also see 'Longmoor' quite a bit and every now and again Longmoor Gp as well. I suppose it's a bit like the word 'Phoenix' was a year or two ago? Neil |

I agree with Neil completely and empathies with you CPO 445.
To echo Neil and clear up any confusion Longmoor camp is where the Rmp go to complete there basic CP course. Therefore once successfully completed you are Longmoor trained, Cpu trained or RMP CP trained.....or call them whatever you want behind there backs haha.. Longmoor Group have called themselves Longmoor. Longmoor are also a site sponsor and have therefore a banner and the right to display there company Logo as an Avatar. This option is open to any company and all they need to do is go to advertise with us....part with your hard earned cash and advertise yourself to 1,800 people a day. Longmoor also comment in threads and advertise there courses as can any other Company.(Although to do this there must be a link between there site and ours...small price to pay for free advertising i think). Further to this Longmoor Group have now offered 10% off there courses to all forum members. So this in itself is clever marketing and creates attention and publicity...as does this thread..haha...so its a kind of win win situation. Does everybody work for them? I hope not, but i do know this forum has a fair few Ex RMP CPU lads as members and they may have loyalties to the current instructors within this organisation. I hope this helps CPO 445. If any other companies wish to offer forum members discounts or special rates please PM me and we can discuss. All the best Gents. CM |

Neil / Covert, thanks for your points, I am well up on the two different names and their backgrounds. There is no way that I am questioning Longmoor for advertising or ex Rmp being proud of their background, it is just that it is getting boring reading the same name time and time again. It just seems to me that the word is being shoved down the proverbial throat far too much.
Of course it might also be the fact that so many people seem to be saying that if you are RMP trained then you are the best thing since sliced bread and I for one disagree. Yes they might be good but then so are others who dont give it large all the time I remember an RMP who was giving it large years back, I advised him to get his head down and he gave me the " I'm an RMP I know better than you " stare and totally ignored me, he soon took notice when a few rounds starting heading in our direction As is being stated time and time again just because you have been trained by a great unit / company or whatever does not actually mean that you are any bloody good. Rant over |

"Of course it might also be the fact that so many people seem to be saying that if you are Rmp trained then you are the best thing since sliced bread and I for one disagree"
"They give it large all the time" I'm assuming when you where in Para Regt you got 'unfairly' done over by an RMP and since you've always had a thing about them. I can only assume this as this was the last time i heard such infuriating comments. How can you possibly tar every single RMP CP as the same....shocking. It's the knd of thing i expect from some private in the Army. 'Yeah those RMP...there all the same' We've all got stories about i remember this.... and i remember that.....i.e i remember a few years ago....in fact no im not going to get sucked into this. Lets just say we've all got stories about this and that but it doesnt mean you can then judge everybody as the same. Something tells me this rant is not over. I've noticed CPO445 that your not exactly the happiest lad on here and if anythign you seem to be the one with the attitude mate knowbody else..... |

Guys
We don't need to get in to the "I'm better than you" retorts. The Rmp CP reputation speaks for itself , why do you think more and more companies are specifying the sort of background and experience ex-members can offer? As a whole the RMP have over 30 years of experience and service during which (touch wood) no principle has been lost and no Operator killed, badly injured as a result of doing his job, yes but, no-one killed. The body count is respectable and so is the number of gallantry awards and citations for doing the job. RMP CP have been operating in the ME since before the first Gulf War (not just the second) and I'm sure some of you out there were on the teams in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, UAE and Saudi, as well as with the various military commanders on the ground, including DLB(personally I was at 177 at the time, attached to 8 Bde!)? It's a simple fact that if you talk about Close Protection, RMP will figure in the equation somewhere. Very few people I know 'gob off' about it but, as I've reiterated in another thread CP to RMP is like Parachuting to the Paras, Boat Handling to the Royals and Long Range Recce is to the SF. It's one of the RMP core skills...there's no argument here. Now I'm not having a dig, 'giving it large' or blowing the trumpet too loudly but as with the majority of ex-mil on this site I have a certain amount of pride in my background and the job I did and I'm doing no more than say, someone from the Parachute Regt would do if you suggested a 'hat' unit could do their role better. I had a full career in RMP, of my 22 I spent 18 as a CPO before leaving in 06, including 2 CP tours of Iraq. The roll in Iraq is one very small slice of the CP pie for RMP, whose current committments stretch from Columbia to Jakarta, Afghanistan to Khartom and lots of places in between. It's the experiences gained in these locations that produces a rounded operator. You tend to see all that CP life can throw at you, from the good to the bad and the dangerous to the mundane. Something money can't buy. So lets not get drawn in to the bickering and back biting, people are entitled to their opinions on this site and I respect that, it's a good thing and provides for lively debate and entertainment. The last thing I'll say is I have yet to read a thread by any ex-RMP CPO slagging off the ability of people who have only come in to the industry in the past 3 or 4 yrs, knocking the backgrounds of individuals, their experience or the courses they've attended (the commercial courses are run by various companies but, it should be no suprise to learn that The Longmoor Gp, Phoenix CP and Nemesis to name but 3 of the better known ones were all set up in whole or in partnership by ex-RMP personnel). It doesn't seem to happen - please correct me if I'm wrong and show me the thread. From a personal view the chips are on other peoples shoulders... Neil |
