Ok, I know its a long way off, but come less than a year away the first batch of sia CP badge holders will be looking at requiring their Licences renewed.

I've been looking on other forums and it appears that the DS fraternity are having major issues with the renewal of their badges in the sense that it is taking a frightfully long time to get the licence and the process is pretty much the same with the same requirements as a new licence etc etc.

So in essence the CPO will have to start thinking about putting their app in at around the October mark if their licence expires in March.

Also, does anyone know what the requirements are going to be. A few of us have had this discussion in the past but can anyone give a definitive clued up answer?

The awarding bodies will not re issue a certificate for a qualification that you have already obtained. Its not like you can improve your mark at all, it was either pass it or fail it. So where do you stand with the requirements. I know that people will say your continual professional development and this is done by continual employment and team training, but what of the operators that have been working in armed roles overseas but have qualified and do hold the licence. Will they be required to go on a refresher course and then not get awarded a qualification that they already hold or will it just be a case of re doing your med element of the qualification and possibly a 1 day refresher in new legislation etc etc and applying for the new licence?

As I said, its quite some way off but with the current state of affairs with the time it takes to get things sorted out and other sectors of the industry coming online to being licenced also, I think that this is something that needs to be addressed.

Any views, comments or informed opinions are welcomed cos we're stumped!!!!

I heard that you could only apply for your renewal one month before your license expired otherwise it gets rejected. Got this info from a collegue who has just had to get some DS licenses renewed for his company.

All I can say is good luck to whoever falls into this category, it'll be interesting to say the least.

Right just got off the phone to the sia, and the following was explained.

1. The SIA will accept renewal applications 4 months prior to the expiry date
2. You will need to fill in the application pack again and tick the box for renewals (if you have changed your name or address then you must send in the relevant supporting documents)
3. At this moment in time THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT for any refresher training in support of a renewal of licence.
4. The cost of the renewal is the same as the cost for a new licence.

So, it seems that this is a fairly painless experience, we shall have to wait & see.

To be honest Mike, they didn't say you did or didn't when i questioned them, so i would suggest you continue with your professional development & renew as it's required.

That's actually a extremely valid point Mike. At the very least I should imagine that someone would have to re qualify for the medical. Correct me If I am wrong as I am overseas and as such not up to speed with the sia etc, but to my understanding both quals last for 3 years. Therefore if it was just a simple case of renewing the license without refresher training for the medical, then they would be licensing people without the very criteria they stipulated in the first instance. So therefore one would naturally assume refresher training for the First aid would be the minimal requirement. But who knows with these fellas?

They probably haven't thought about it at all!! I would think that its just a case of renewing as and when your first aid runs out as James said.

I think if they start expecting you to have a new First Aid cert for your renewal then that may cause problems, because every renewal you'll have to get your First Aid before your current runs out, or risk not having your license for months!!
