Guys, i'm looking to enhance my employability by improving my medic skills. I'm a Ronin SA grad and got the RMA. I've seen EMT courses run by Paratrain ( ParaTrain ) and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this company?

Any advice on courses/companys would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

M.

Paratrain are known to me but only as a result of their website. I have no experience of them good or other.

Exmed are very good as is Prometheus- i know of them so can recommend them.

A company called Omega-specialist-training is i beleive about to appear on the market with some good courses and instructors/qualifications.

In uk there is really only the following RECOGNISED qualifications

First aid at work
First person on scene (intermediate & Advanced)
some defibilation courses and oxygen courses are recognised also.
Then theres Paramedic- which is NHS only (PHTLS MIMMS ETC)

EMT (B) (I) & (P) are usually based on US qualifications and are excellent if issued by US providers ( usually state by state)
EMT is unfortunatly not a recognised course here- but may well gaurantee you work forever if you spend the $ 12000+ to get PROPERLY accredited

That Omega lot have i heard got recognition from ICHD, EurC, BRC, RCoS here and a US qualification body and Tacmed provider as well as a police force etc etc so they maybe a new kid in the block. Time will tell.

Miltary quals are somewhat strangely largely ignored by regualtory/awarding bodies so much so that many miltary medics , despite their wealth of CP/PSD orientated skill sets are having to do 4 day HSAW courses just to get a toe in the door.

I would state that im sure there are courses I have missed and companies that exist that I dont know of so please do research for yourself . I am happy to be corrected if i am mistaken.

If I can help further PM Me

I can second the Prometheus recommendation having had some experience of them and having mates currently working for them abroad.

With regards to which course, I think that it depends on where you are looking to work as to which skills are applicable.

I'm not a big fan of the term EMT (Emergency Medical Technician for those unfamiliar) as it has no agreed standard across the board and can vary greatly in quality and skills dependant on the course provider. Some give great training with a good skill set but others amount to a first aid course with a sexy title on the certificate. Obviously this can be avoided by reasearch and voting with your wallet. Maybe I just get my Knicks in a twist over this as I'm a career medic lol

I have heard, shall we say, mixed reviews on Paratrain and would not like to comment further.

Heres a link to Prometheus: http://www.prometheusmedical.co.uk/

Hope that helps
Paul.

Guys, thanks for all the info, much appreciated.

Basically I just want to improve on my existing skills. I've got the RMA from Ronin SA, and First Person on Scene (Intermediate), but due to skill fade need to refresh these skills, at the very least.

Just looked at Prometheus and they look very good, will make some enquiries and let you know.

Once again thanks for all the input.
