I totally agree with you - but a level 3 for £3000 is better than a level 2 for £3000 !
what happens after that is up to the employer

Grappler,

There are many training providers that offer many things. Some are better known than others. Look around and see what suits your needs best. All bring something to the table.
As for employment after the course, that I am afraid is mostly down to yourself, no truthful company should guarantee employment, however a good provider will assist graduates as much as possible, cv construction, introductions to employers, advice on where to start etc.

As you are not hoping to work in HE then I fail to see how a firearms course would benefit you apart from to look good on a cv , however as almost all work in EU and definately all work in the UK will be unarmed , surely a sound driving course or medical course would be a better use of your cash and would assist employment more than a firearms course that you will not use??

sia license is solely required within the UK, and yes it is a good tool to have for work overseas however it is not a necessity. Many companies want to see your experience and your history when considering you for employment and this industry is all about reputation, not just the course you attended , but your reputation amongst your peers.
Ronin has a top reputation especially in the medical field.
I would recommend that you look around, call and ask what the training provider can do for you , after all it is your cash and in essence your investment in yourself. Take care

any security background is a bonus, it will all make sense whichever course you choose
Regarding employment - its all up to you to get your name on the circuit - there is plenty of work in the UK and Dubai is looking at the moment
Its up to you buddy
add up the costs and make sure you get the BTEC Level 3 for Close Protection - that makes you a team leader!
Good Luck
Mark
Well that is the best one i have seen yet, Btec Level 3 makes you a TL. What a load of Bollocks, experience makes you a good TL not a piece of paper. If this is what people are told then the industry needs a good kick up the arse.
As to all the work in the UK at the moment, things are still relativly quiet although I do know of some work that is going on at the moment but it is fully staffed before anybody starts asking.
As for the firearms part unless you are going to work the pit or afgan it is a good jolly for you as the chances of you carrying in the UK or Europe will be nil. Learn to use a phone because it will be the main weapon that you have at your disposal.
Sorry to be a hard nose but it is about time that things are put right. There are guys on this forum who have years of experience behind them and are working at present who have no interest in being TL's but at least they do not rely on a piece of paper.
If you want to read regarding experience I suggust that you read posts by MTS as he has been at the front end all his life and lives to tell. I have followed his posts on other sites as well and he always has always put good post together

LOL nice one liner

Btw the post above, certainly in UK and some Euro coutries you are not allowed to have/use side weapon, but I'm more than certain that for example in Poland you can, of course after finishing courses applying to to police, having no criminal record etc etc, but it's possible, as I personally know people who do this job and have permission for gun.
Other question is if you really need it, well eastern europe I'd say you may

And regarding TL no offence but anyone who thinks that [in any kind of job] it is a paper itself who makes a leader, supervisor, manager, proves he has no idea what is he talking about.
One word: EXPERIENCE, that's what makes a difference between panicing, and effective handling any stressfull situation.
It's like saying that passing the theory exam and a few practical lessons makes you a pro-driver/racer.

Hey Grappler,

Its one pretty good course in Israel, which will teach you not only all EP elements (in practice - include firearm training), but will give you good tools if you thinking to open own company from the business side of view.

MAX Security Solution
close protection - bodyguard training - Course Detail - Max-Security

stay safe,
V

Sorry , didnt read that part about a level 3 making you a T/L , Please allow me to clear that up .... nonsense.
A T/L is usually highly qualified and has EXPERIENCE. A piece of paper from some university cannot duplicate that (thank Christ).
If that is what you were told when doing your course then shame on whoever sold you that line of crap. All I will say is go out to the pit for example and put your diploma on the table and request a T/L slot and listen to the giggles and sniggers for hours!!!
USe the qualification for what it is, a foothold in the industry , nothing more.

It seems that every one has an opinion!
BTEC Level 3 is industry standard training that gives you the written qualification to be a team leader, no one said that was all you needed! - Every one knows you can't beat experience, that comes through years of on the ground work experience. I agree completely with all the comments and quotes that have followed the initial query. The point I was trying to make was related to the costs of training out there and what you get for your money.
Obviously no one is going to get a team leader position just because they have passed an exam (that at the end of the day I think my 9 year old could have passed!)
The industry knows that and I would hope that prospective candidates would realise it too.
I wouldn't like to think that if I was a team member , my team leader had no more experience than me.
Regarding firearms - big toys for big boys - its all experience gained! I hope to god I never have to use one for real and take some ones life - I was under the impression that Close Protection was all about saving lives, but at the end of the day self preservation will always prevail, we all know that firearms in the EU are a big no no - but if deployed to HE, then its a self comfort to know that you have had proper safety trainig and live drills to hopefully ensure that you can survive an attack from an aggressor that doesn't know one end of an AK from the other.
So to sum up - get trained - get work - get experience - survive!
