node is on a distinguished road
Hi,

I have been looking on the net for the past few days and I have noticed there are no dedicated recruitment website for Close Protections. I have an idea and I would like some advice. At the moment i'm thinking of creating a website which will have a database of contractors with their CV's, experiance and work availability. Employers will have to apply for an account to see the contractors details, before their accounts are authorized they will go through a vetting process to insure that they are genuine. At the same time they will be able to see brief information about each contractor, their full name will not be disclosed. Only their desired nickname will be disclosed, infact the contractor will decide what information to be disclosed about them. For the employer to gain more information about a certain contractor they will perhaps click a button which states "interested" once the button has been clicked an automated email will be sent to the contractor informing them that a certain employer is interested in them and then they can decide if they want the employer to see their full profile. Do you think this is a good idea? Will it work? Would anyone here be interested in this? I have calculated and it will cost around £2,500 to set the whole thing up. The revenue will come from advertisement and a small fee which the employers will have to pay. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Node hi,

May I offer you a little piece of advice please without seeming to patronising?

In the commercial world we have many areas of protection... for the written word we have 'Copyright' (C) and for ideas we have 'Intellectual Property' (IP) rights. What you are actually doing here is you are conducting some 'Market Research'... Well done!

May I suggest though, that you enter into a more private discussion forum/avenue or employ a more discreet process otherwise, quite frankly mate... someone may or is going to 'Half inch' (nick) your idea or plans. Choose your candidates with some caution!

Once again, I do not want to seem patronising here I'm just trying to offer you a little advice from 21 years experience in commerciality... Good luck with your plans or project.... Carl Dowd

Cm and Carl have offered good advice Node as regards keeping your ideas under your hat.

As another thought mate I would like to point out that many in the industry are very suspicious of placing their cvs and details onto websites, despite the amont of vetting and fail safes / guarantees about their security.

One other point you might like to consider is how do you vett the contractors? There are a lot of genuine people out there but there are also a shed load of walts, dont get me wrong and I think you have a super idea but these points are maybe food for thought for you.
After all one walt placed in a job from your site could effectively destroy your credability.
To vett their details personally will take a lot of time, effort and phonecalls etc.

I think the reasoning behind the idea makes sence. Agreed with the commerciality side of things and not shouting about your ideas too much; there are ways around that though, IP is one of them.

There are a number of sites on the net offering similar service to other ereas of the security industry, and with some sucess; this is one Security Vacancies, UK Jobs in Security

But will such a database be fully utilised safely and trusted on both sides (by contractors and employers alkie)? Many guys within the industry at home and away are rightly protective of their details and cautious about how their details are disseminated. Worth a think.

The idea of a database is a very sound one - but how it could bepulled off or made to work is a big question. If the industry had one legal overseeing governing body (like the sia could be but isn't) then it would be a logical resource for them to manage; but with the sia just being t****rs and other orgs like the BBA, IACPO being two a penny and not really governing bodies etc etc etc, where do you start?

Don't give up on it; do what you can to protect your idea (solicitor will help) then have a real think, starting with all the weak points and build up an answer or solution to each problem before you run with the idea.

Surely this would be similar thing to Minimal Risk ,where you can upload your cv and details, apply for posts and recieve interveiw offers from them for companys recruiting ,also like Ex-Mil.I know alot of members are not ex forces so this sort of database may help guys/girls in other sectors of the security world .
My concerns with this kind of project is that with the likes of the 2 sites mentioned above they are reccommended by the military resettlement and 1 of them has been used last year to advertize in a major recruitment drive for a UK firm operating in Iraq.Whereas no offence node I dont know anything about you ,ie are you linked up with the likes of any of the major UK firms(CR/AEGIS/AG/OLIVE) .I know for a fact that at least 2 of the afore mentioned firms will now get open slots on another associations website.
The other concern is with someone holding /having access to such a data base who can abuse this by saying pax on the data base "hey ,Ive got a massive contract here ,I need 200 people ,your all qualified and if you pay me £200 Ill vet you and youll get the job"
