Hi all

I've recently joined the forum (see intro). I have a background in military intelligence and Surveillance, both mil and civ gov organisations. I'm very interested in getting into private sector and had a couple of questions that I though you may be able to help with:
1. Do you need an SF background to succed in the CP industry?
2. I have been looking at Longmoore for a sia approv CP course, any opinions?
3. With advanced surveillance skills would i be better focussing on that or trying the CP world and circuit?
Any advice would be very helpful

Many thanks

Hi Rob,

you post poses so many answers but I will try to be as brief as possible.

You do not need to be SF to succeed in the industry , many civvies, infantry, police , RMPs etc enjoy good standing and employment opportunities both in HE and ECP roles.
Your third question raises issues for the second question, if you do not intend to do CP and instead wish to concentrate on the skill sets you already have then why bother to do a CP course at Longmoor?
If you do wish to do CP then Longmoor are a good bet, ronin are reputable, Regal are my choice (however we have got partnership with them so that is a little biased!) In truthfulness there are many reputable trainers out there and shop around to find what suits best, all offer something and not all can or do assist with employment after training.
If you decide to use the skills you have then I recommend ISS or MTS both very good and both offer different training and useful additional skills.
Good Luck and if I can help further drop me a line or PM.

Hi Rob

I would suggest keeping with the Surveillance/ int role. There are lots of CPOs out there, with some less reputable schools churning them out every few weeks. If you were to become a new CPO, even after the Longmoor course, you'd still just be a new inexperienced CPO. I would suggest concentrate on your existing skill set and look at intelligence/ surveillance jobs. If you have analyst experience check out the various UK Police Forces- Notts is looking for analysts and advisors at present- or some of the larger companies in Iraq/ Afghan- Dyncorp is look for Int guys. If surveillance is more your thing check out the insurance companies- they are nearly always looking for surveillance/ investigators. You could always at the moment check out the Brit Gov Intelligence agencies "Five", "the Box", GCHQ, DIS. Five and the Box are both actively recruiting at the moment.

In answer to your questions. You don't need an SF background, your expereince in the Military will stand you above all of those who have no military experience. Staying with Surveillance is one option, but in my opinion you are putting your eggs in to one basket. By doing a CP course opens up more employment opportunies for you.

Again, in my opinion you have made a sound decision looking at Longmoor Group. I have heard some excellent reports from guys who have done their course and they are held in high regard amongst employers in the industry. If you want to get the good jobs in the industry you will need to select a provider with a sound background in CP.

Responding to a thread above I have not really heard of Regal, only on here, and have not met any lads who have done their course. I dont think thjey have been around long and it takes time to build a reputation.

If you want anymore advice please PM me!

I personally know the owner of Rst and yes they are relatively new (as were Longmoor once) Brummie is very well known in the industry and has been involved in training for a very long time and if you wish to PM me I can give you a long list of persons who have received training from Brummie and references as to his credentials.
If you didnt attend Longmoor can I ask whos course you did attend???
