Hi,
Just wish to sound out the reality of CP work for me.. What are the chances of a young lad, say 22 years old, with 2 years military experience with singapore cdo, to land a job with the industry? Without accreditation from sia or whatever courses out there available. Location anywhere. All advises welcomed. |

No disrespect intended, but a reality check is what you're after, your chances are slim to nil, most people are looking for an experienced head, over 25, sometimes the insurance wont cover people of lesser years.
A few more years in mil would stand you in good stead. For what it's worth, this is just an opinion. AB |

Well you did ask....the 'reality' is that you will have great difficulty, my advice for what it's worth, is to read some of the numerous posts on this site on roughly the same subject. You will probably see a common thread running through them, mainly, research the training provider's websites, get as many relevant courses as you can, network, try working your way up through the system,ie, taking some of the jobs that some of the 'old sweats' in here would never consider doing!! At least it would get your face known and build up your base skills. Finally hope for a superb stroke of luck :-) but seriously don't be too keen just to go 'anywhere', there are some really dodgy places that you don't want to be in without a sh*t load of experience. Good luck.
At least you took the time to ask |

you would have more chances to get job in Close Protection if you are really interested on "location anywhere" and should have good Russian or Lithuanian..
In eastern Europe especially Russia we have used to "grow" our bodyguards, and train them on our own costs, this way we grow professional force in the way we want to see them.. Seems it's not common here.. If you want to get job yourself in eastern Europe you also should have passed Masters bodyguard training from KGB or NASTR or OTF this are mostly eastern body's that train bodyguards, but only x-forces allowed for masters training. And that may be very very very very costly , and you may not pass the training. Hope this helps at least little bit.

Noted with thanks.. Just another point to ask you guys. Being an asian, will that put me at any disadvantage. And so, does the industry focus more on training certifications, or experience? |

As far as i see people are looking a lot in certifications etc,but if you will have 100certs,and no experience i doubt if someone will take you on the job. Its best to mix-up .. have certs. from approved and well known training body's and experience. (checkable) But i can say for sure if you will be searching for work in Eastern Europe i.e. corporate security , no one will know what is sia license or any of UK training body's,except if you will have IBA cert. that's different. IBA is well known. |

Lietuvis
Have to disagree with you there mate... regarding sia and other UK quals not being known in Eastern Europe... I am based in Eastern Europe and more over most of the clients are from Uk companies and US clients and therefore they only request Uk/ US Quals... for info IBA are not excactly what I would call reputable as far as certs go. Having said that the local players out here seem to think IBSSA and others are good creds so go figure on that. I know many here that value the UK standards and this is true worldwide, even in the states. IBA ?? A reality check would be more directed at Baron James Short of Shortcastle!!! |

sorry but size has nothing to do with it, i am only 5ft 4 and size 6 to 8 so i am tiny and i have had work and it has never been an issue for me at all that i know of. Experience and ability and having the right things for a particular job matter more than being a hulking great 6ft 4 guy with a 42" chest (not that theres not a place for that, so no offence to anyone that big).
After all the main aim is prevention not getting into it, but knowing that if that does happen you have the ability to deal with it should it happen. In my personal opinion which is just that a personal opinion. |

and james good luck should you choose this path, it isnt easy for anyone. For instance my husband has 4 years experience with good company's as a medic in the pit and when he came back briefly in February and started looking for another contract well lets say he is still waiting now..... and he has 9 years in the paras too. Not that i am trying to piss on your parade just laying out some honest facts as i see them.
