C'mon guy IBG is bollox.. You can't provide adequate protection alone. If someone needs CP then they need protecting, not a fashion accessory.
Yes our course covers it, but only as it's a requirement to do so. |

No you can't provide adequate protection on a one to one basis. But, and this is where working in the UK it happens alot, the client who is also the principal will only pay for one CPO. Furthermore most CP jobs in the UK do not have a sufficient threat against them to justify having any CPO's at all and its just an exercise in facilitating the clients/principals movements smoothly and maintaining as much as a security coverage as possible. This is similar to the exellent job I am on at the moment and of some of my past jobs I have had in the UK.

APG
No one is claiming IBG provides enough cover and in the same breath not all CP teams do either. I'm sure there are many people on here who wanted to get more teams members into a location, onto a mode of transport etc but due to numerous reason couldn't so the only way is IBG just another tool in the toolbox of the CPO/team to be used when warranted or restricted to it's use. |

Hippo,
Very true, but I wasn't refering to the situation where by as part of a larger team a CPO must go solo due to the team/resources being stretched, but the case where CPOs take on straight IBG work. Whilst I respect the need to earn a living and the myriad of IBG jobs provide the opportunity I think it's detrimental the industry both in financial and quality terms. Protocol and procedures cannot be followed and SOPs are shot to hell. But, to be fair most Operatives I know who do IBG do state they are nothing more than 'glorified assistants' who 'advise on security' It's also true that many of the Ops who take on IBG work are the ones that slate Celebrity BGs for the same job. At APG we do have work for sole CPOs but as Security Advisors. (Unlike certain companies this is not a naff way of using unlicensed staff) A certain large CP company is advertising 'Protective convoy work' around Greater London that is IBG... how thats a protective convoy I have no idea, appealing the flood of Iraq guys perhaps? One HUGE plus point I give IBG is that through this, more and more people are turning to hiring CP services. In particular as much of it is direct employment, overheards are avoided so the cost is far more attractive to Principals/Clients. |

Wouldn't it defeat the whole object of attending the course in the first place, and paying out all that money?? I think it would annoy alot of people who sat the exam in the correct mannor and did it honestly. Just an opinion of someone who is about to embark on it....

iv just read all of this thread?
why are people so down on individuals from non mil backgrounds getting into cp? surely integrety, quick thinking and a good level of fittness along with the ability think on there own is a fair start and as good as the ability to shoot like a sniper especially in comercial work. im on a soap box at the minute and im going back to the bit i said about the ability to think for yourself, most mil people i know cant think on there own they are conditioned to take orders and have little ability to think on there own! |

Hi, I agree with the above comment, dont be so negative about non civvy ppl getting into the industry especially CP work. I thought as well as individual merrits its team work!! If before hand you dont agree with civvies doing the job what the hell is gonna happen on the job???
Come on people less of the negative stuff, and yes some of us have been doing our research and really want to get on in the industry and do well within it. There are not so good ex military for the job and not so good civvy people for the job, but give credit to those that are good, including civvies. We are not all dumb asses who havent got a scooby... A little respect goes a very long way... |
