Hi guys,

There is an interesting Close Protection Diving course being offered at Bodyguard Training Close Protection Officers Security Services.
The course is 7 days you'll have to get in contact with them for pricing, but i've heard its between £1000 and £1500.

For other courses, in the past i've used Google just by typing in Maritime security courses

Good luck

By not providing further details on your requirements I will cover all bases and you can pick out which direction you need.

You will need the following quals listed by the International Ship and Port Facility Code (ISPS) agreed at International Maritime Organisation : The quals are awarded by Maritime Contractors Association and are recognised worldwide by recruiters. The Basic safety and Heli escape training are absolute minimums for offshore installations, the basic safety a minimum for vessels.

SSO - Ship Security Officer

Course code: SSOApprovalsMCA (UK)Course Duration3 Days
Course Description
The course covers security both onboard the ship and the interface between ship, operating company and port facility.

The course commences with an introduction to the background of the ISPS Code and relevant legislation. During the first day, the course will discuss the company security organisation, the roles of the CSO and SSO, security requirements and security administration. Following an explanation of security drills, security exercises and crowd management techniques, the course considers security protection and emergency preparedness.
During the second day, the course concentrates upon ship security assessments, the ship security plan, methods of conducting audits and ship and port facility security measures. The afternoon is devoted to methods of physical searches and how to handle sensitive security related information and communications.
The third morning completes the tuition with descriptions of behavioural patterns of people likely to threaten security, recognition and detection of weapons and the testing and calibration of security equipment and systems. The course concludes in the afternoon with a final practical assessment exercise.

CSO- Company Security Officer

Course Description
This course is intended to meet the requirements set out in sections A/2.1.7 and A/II of the ISPS Code and corresponding guidance in Part B of the Code and relevant UK legislation.
The course will cover security both onboard the ship and the interface between ship, operating company and port facility.
The background to the ISPS Code and relevant legislation introduce the course. The course then discusses the company security organisation, the roles of the CSO, SSO and PFSO, general security requirements, security administration, ship security assessments, risk management, security threats and patterns with the consideration of persons likely to threaten security.
The preparation of elements of a ship security plan, methods of physical searches, the recognition and detection of weapons and the beneficial use of security equipment and systems are introduced. The need for Training and Drills are addressed including practical measures to achieve implementation. The importance for all personnel to be aware of and adhere to pre-planned emergency procedures is considered together with crowd management techniques. Security contingencies and appropriate responses are discussed and prepared.
The course concludes on day five with final practical assessment exercises.

For vessels and offshore installations you will definately need Offshore survival safety training. For installations such as rigs etc. you will also need Helicopter underwater escape training. These are a minimum for insurance reasons.

Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training.
Course CodeBOSApprovalsOPITOCourse Duration3 DaysPrerequisitesNoneAssessmentContinuous assessment with written, oral and practical methods usedTeaching MethodsTheory and practical sessions
Course Description
The course is designed for new entrants into the offshore oil & gas industry in the UK sector who fall within the category of non-specialist personnel. This course is a requirement before working in the offshore industry and it satisfies the Oil and Gas UK requirements.

The course is divided into four modules: safety induction, sea survival, fire fighting & self-rescue and helicopter safety & escape. This will give personnel with no specialist emergency response duties a basic understanding and awareness of the hazards encountered when travelling to work on offshore installations and the emergency procedures involved following an offshore incident.

Helicopter Underwater Escape Training.

Course CodeHUETApprovalNone – a academy certificate is issued on completionCourse Duration½ DayPrerequisitesNone
AssessmentContinuous assessmentTeaching MethodsTheory and practical sessions including helicopter simulator training
Course Description
The course is designed to enhance the safety of marine personnel who are engaged in helicopter transfers at sea. It covers both normal and emergency safety procedures and includes dry evacuation training and practical underwater escape training using breath hold techniques.

Once you have these quals (definately the Saftey and Heli ones) then you can be insured, in fact no off-shore installation will allow you on their platform unless you have the appropiate safety training, unless of course they have been held hostage and its "no rules". Specialised training can be arranged through a few companies, but I would have these quals under your belt first if you will end up on a BP, Shell, etc rig. Some cmpanies will put you through these courses, but if you pay yourself you would be looking at around £3k in total.

There are 2 places that offer these courses in the Uk, Warsash Maritimie Academy in Southampton is one of them. I was on some of their courses a few years ago and no complaints, good equipment etc. Google "Warsash Maritime Academy" and have a look.

For further "specialised training" then Maritime Asset and Security Training is a UK firm with a few ex-SF trainers on the team. Their training areas are Intelligence assessments, Anti piracy protection, Vip Close Protection, Armed escort patrol vessels and Advance port surveys. Their website for further info: MAST - Maritime Asset Security and Training

Hope this helps,

Regards

Shakes
