hi, i am ex eod in army 33 engr reg, i would love work as eod dog handler altho i am not a trained dog handler but its something i would love to do.
do you know of any work in this field then? cheers

Hi mate,you wont get a job without the EDD/MDD training.But as soon as you have that qualification I believe you can step into a dog handler position easy.It will be a bargain for
any company who has an EOD as a K-9 handler.

If your in the UK, give Collin at Wagtail Home Page a ring and he can sort you out for a course, I have spoken with him and he comes recommended as well, he is Ex-royal vet corps and is MOD approved for career transition if you still qualify for that..?..he also supplies handlers for a company doing contracts in the middle east and other places. Hi all, i I am a civillian who has trained with a globally respected canine institution in EDD, MDD, Hydrocarbon search dogs etc for the past few years. I have had operational experience at major sporting venues and prior to a Royal Visit here in the UK. I was initially trained to be deployed overseas using mine detection dogs. i have had 4 years experience in training dogs for various specialist roles. I am currently looking for work. Licensed by the police my dog is trained on a wide range of commercial and millitary explosives and is fully operational. I look forward to any views. JasH

Hi Mate,

I'm working as an EDD Handler in Iraq at the moment and to be honest all the companies I know of provide their own dogs. The only exception I have seen over here (and please correct me if anyone knows different.!!) is American K9 Cadaver dogs. It's getting harder and harder to get a DH job over here as well due to the fact that most companies just won't pay the money any more. I have just finished a job where the company have got rid of me, the EX-Pat DH and are now using the TCN Handlers that I trained in the first place.!!! Same as any job over here mate, it ain't what you know its deffo who you know.

I would have thought that someone with your experience would have contacts for work, are you set up for self employment? maybe you could start promoting your services as a business, thats if you are looking for something in the UK market. Where are you looking to work?
