Is there work up North???

I ask due to the fact that I live in Sheffield & with having a young family & a demanding full time job I find it difficult to undertake any CP work. What with all the work that’s been offered to me has been based down South (mainly London) so I’m finding it difficult to find a happy medium.


Therefore I'm wondering if there are any companies/assignments available nearer to home, so I don't have to keep turning work away!

Hi Yorkie,

Unfortunately mate most of the work in CP will be based around London , nature of the beast and all that.

There is always limited work available within the other UK major cities but as I said it is limited.
Have you tried the major sporting clubs in your area ?? On a lot of occasions these are filled by companies and agencies but dropping them a line might give you a better idea of what might be available.
Have you tried other forms of work other than CP (if the work isnt there near you) ?
Retrain for Surveillance work perhaps..... ISS are based near to you and might be an option for good certs and might open a different career path.

Sorry but the majority of work in CP is London based and if you are having to turn work down due to location and family circumstances , then a different career within security is maybe the only answer.

Yeah I've tried the local sports/leisure clubs & arenas which, as you've rightly said, are run by contract security companies paying only the minimum wage with no CP work. Which is no good to me as I wouldn’t work for that shit money + I don’t wish to go back starting from scratch, doing something I did over 18 years ago. I’d like to move forwards not backwards!

Plus I have a steady paid career in security already, being responsible for the security & safety of a newly built large college. So it's just a case of wanting to branch out a little & utilize my skills in other areas of the security industry & not for a total change.

And yes your right again- I know it’s a bad time for me to try to get on the Circuit with my geographic location & family comments etc, but hey it’s NOT going to stop me from trying though.

Had a problem finding work up north myself, I'm from Lancashire. Due to a major change in my personal circumstances I find myself living a little further south and hope this may help. Not looking for anything immediately as I am trying to settle into a new life with a new bloke and looking to get into surveillance. Been advised to look at ISS but won't be until next year.
