Simulators are merely that; simulations. We do use them in the US, mainly to train in judgemental reactions, not for marksmanship. Unlike paintball, simunition or airsoft, a good instructor can break down each scenario and reinforce postive training concepts. $100,000 US buys a decent starter set up and allows a good selection of weapons, preprogrammed scenarios and the ability to branch the action based on the operators responses. Most are also designed to allow the owners to video their own scenarios for the system.
I have often thought of investing in a good system for public use. It does make a good training aid, but only after a good basic weapons handling course (live fire) has been completed. Without that, it is just an expensive arcade game. |
