if i was to go to uni it would most likely b to do a topic not relevant to security as uni courses tht involve security are'nt to my liking. such as
International Relations and Security Studies (only remotely relevant from what i understand) Police Studies (again i could do this, i know a friend of the family who is a CPO i forget which company tho, who has a police background) i think if i were to go to uni i would probably do a totally unrelated subject like Computer Forensics (it sounds more nerdy than what it actually is) i got to pass my normal driving test first am currently taking lessons. Read through the forum mate and you'll get the message.
Your to young. I dont want a 17yr sat beside me when the Shit hits the fan! i.e the front vehicle dissapears into a cloud of dust and debris and you start getting effective incoming. I want a lad who is experienced, knowledgeable and well trained in fire arms. Sorry for being so blunt M3uk but that just the way it is. If you want to do CP that badly join the Royal Military Police, get some army experience, train for the CP course, pass it and you could end up working all over the world. You might even meet some nice German/polish women and they'll show you some experience for 50Euro? All the best. CM |

M3uk,
Many will affirm I am too prejudiced when I state that a BG should not be younger than 25 years of age, (preferably not less than late 20’s). There is a very good reason for this – experience. Experience in life situations is an asset in protection operations often overlooked. The correct assessment of situations, drawing the correct conclusions from that assessment and deciding on the correct course of action to take is a necessary quality that training cannot always teach or instil. Being able to communicate with the assistants of the ‘Boss’, his family, his associates…being able to communicate with the Boss. Instilling a trustful bond between protector and protectee stem from a quiet confidence, maturity, professionalism and a well balanced character that all stem from life experiences. Alas, not available as a 17 or 18 year old and sadly, but obviously, no age restrictions dictate in the commercial world, even after ‘sia licensing’. However, I have an idea... Why don't you go ahead and apply for attendance of a CP course. If you are advised to apply in a few years, say that you fully understand the workings of the role and that you want to begin training now. When you have successfully passed a CP course, apply to the SIA for a CP license - they can't turn you down as you will be legally entitled to one. When you have received your license, (and this is the good bit), let me know. Rich H Last edited by Rich H; 15-08-2008 at 11:37 AM. |

M3uk
I represent a training provider and sadly we would not even consider you suitable for training. I cant say this would be the case everywhere but to be honest, it would be a waste of your time and money to gain an sia license at this point in your life. It is highly unlikely that you will find meaningful employment, if at all. We will never train anyone under 23 regardless of Military background etc. You have to be realistic mate, ask yourself this question , and be truthful... would you like a 17 yr old to be charged with the task of protecting your mother, father etc??? Would you see that person as up to the task? This is by no means a slur on you , and please dont take it that way , but more a general perception.... an executive client would never feel at ease with a youth protecting him..... get your education squared away and reassess later. Good Luck |

m3uk,
This is going to sound very blunt but here goes, you are not listening. If you are not listening now to the expereinced guys before you get qualified, what hope is there of you listening once you are qualified. Ie listening to instructions on a job or reading them from a warning notice before a job. The advice you are being offered is professional as well as friendly. There are many experienced trainers and operators on this site. The advice they give is second to none, they know exactly what they are talking about. Please listen to what they have to say, honestly they know their trade they have years experience! ( sorry not trying to make you all sound old hehe) |

M3uk,
I say go for it. If the expense of the course is no problem to you with the high chance you will not be taken seriously then what do you have to lose? If you start your training quals now, in 10 years you will have enough training to start work proper! Do it and see if you can get a license. I would be very interested. Let me know, just don't ask me for a job. Rich H |
