Although i am an advocate for longer training courses, i would also always suggest that anyone no matter how experienced keeps up to date and keeps refreshed. As mentioned by Mr Burns on another thread today, it is a fact that everyone has weaknesses, and just because someone is new doesn't mean theyre previous skill set isn't also an asset to their new role and maybe they can teach things to those who have been in this business a long time, and vice versa.
You really do only get out what you put in, and some of us have a longer attention span than others and maybe a greater capacity for taking in vast amounts of information very quickly, as opposed to those who maybe do learn quicker by being dropped in the thick of it and told to get on with it. Training regularly in anything helps to keep you mentally sharp aswell. So where i can see that some favour a shorter course, and are itching to get out there, others may see the benefits of maybe taking on a longer course with more content that gives them a greater skill set from the off go, rather than having to go do another part of it 6 months later. It really will always be down to personal choice, price, and a host of other things. |

Ok just to be clear my time outlines are based solely around UK-unarmed- work.
Principally training paid for by clients- or individuals- and often with timelines and operational demands to be met. Most good courses cost about £2500 + and thats for UK work. this can be preclusive. Im lucky I have a client who subsidises my courses to the tune of £1500 per head but he still insists on a minimum entry standard and hes the one pushing for a standardisation of Residence - doors badged SIA- teams. Time is good. The more time the better. Standards of student and instructor have to be the measure of a course. If you have dubious instructors training people who will never get work wheres the credability? Ok have to get back to the day job!! |

For me its not so much the length of the course more the content. You could have an ill prepared and delivered course last for 10 wks but it will still only be a 10 week ill prepared and delivered course. Anyway thats my opinion and like a r seholes we all have one!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1999 mate, there were less training providers for less students & i would suggest most of the companies did their pricing in line with military resettlement grants.

I did a 14 day course. was a nice base but I think the content is the most important aspect. does the course actually qualify you for working in the enviroment. I would suggest there are some that do and some that dont. Im a great beliver in learning a job though doinging it and to be honest dont think I was a good enough level until I had gained on the job training (if im being honest!). And still have a lot to learn

the first course you do is-
ENTRY LEVEL The use of DS Guys on Static jobs is legal and allows good guys to be nurtured. If any guys made themselves available for training they would be first in line as they were a known quantity. Indeed this funding runs out in Jan so it may help someone who otherwise might be lost. There is no price on good training. The guys on this forum who have done these subsidised courses I release you from the paperwork regarding comment on training- please comment away - for 7 days!! |
