Other than the SIA who are the lisencing authority are there any reputable CPO members associations?
I am aware of the PBA and BBA, are there any others? Are these the best? Which association (if any) is it worth being a member of?

I'm thinking of networking oportunities, oportunities for getting my CV out (as well as this site) and weather membership will positivly reinforce my training and qualifications to potential employers.

Thank you in advance.

Like you said there are many, from all ove the world

The National Association of Security Professionals - NASP National Association of Security Professionals - Home - A recognised Association within the Security Industry

NASP is an association set up from what was the ex para close protection forum. Take a look at their website and it tells you of the benefits of joining. There is also a forum and job section. Some companies are now using NASP as their only method of recruitment and thus some jobs are only open to NASP Members, so worth joining.

International Association of Close Protection Officer (IACPO) the IACPO - Home

An association of CPO's from all over the world, they are also affiliated to the International Close Protection Training Association and membership, includes training discounts, advice and a forum.

STING Protection S.T.I.N.G Protection - Profesional Bodyguards have a forum on their website,

I was a member of GSI for a while Security Consultants

Nemesis Group have their own network for their own graduates and people who have done other training with them.

Off the top of my head, thats it from me. There are loads and loads more and whilst networking is key in this industry. Alot of the thoughts and opinions are echoes accross the board as it is the same people on all of them. I joined this one, NASP, IACPO and Working the doors, anything more than that and it would be a full time job just keeping track of forums and associations.

Forgot to mention working the doors. Working the Doors they have a CP section too.

Cheers

Kev

Thanks a lot Kev, very helpfull. Been looking at a lot of forums for advise on training providers, its a minefield (pardon the punn!)

Has a look at NASP, Nemessis also looks interesting, as does Counter Threat Group. The problem I'm finding, although no providor guarantees work for graduates, they tend to only consider their own graduates as oposed to those of other training providers. So you end up judging them based on "after sales" as oposed to course content and costs etc. Thats where I thought an association could help.

Thanks a lot.

Chris

NASP in my opinion is a waste of money, especially for £120 per year. Its not as good as this site and it costs you money....well done mally you seem to have cracked it

Happy New Year CO19 and thankyou CO 19 for your comments.

Mally and I come from a Military/CP Police background and beleived that a free central forum like this one would be a good idea.

At the moment the only revenue which is generated through the forum is via the google adverts which is just short of non existent.

Everytime a google advert is clicked we get a small ammount of revenue.

I am a member of NASP and have to say that I disagree with your comments CO19. Yes your right it does cost money but what about the fact that as a member I have automatically got myself £10000 worth of insurance to work in security in this country and also we do get jobs come up on the site that are for our eyes only, in fact there were jobs put on the site for CPOs only yesterday. I also know that these jobs are genuine as there are other members already on these jobs.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I'm happy being a member. I will also say that this is a bloody good site - I do wonder about some of the posts, but it is still an interesting and switched on site

I was a member of Nasp for a year as were several friends/ colleagues. We didn't renew our membership as the cost of the site outwayed its usefulness. There was never many jobs advertised on the site and most were to stand by the side of a road for a couple of hours whilst people took readings.
Anyway only a personal opinion and I am pleased that you are getting something out of it and value the site. Don't mean to annoy or upset anyone. Just my opinion.
