Littlewoman and CO 19 thanks for joining in, I hope more members follow and I wonder if we'll ever agree on what is CP and what is PSD.
If you were tasked with multiple principles do you still call yourself/the task - CP or minder or security consultant?
How can you be close enough to react to multiple people?
Using the band scenario how do you priortise which band member to assist/save first? Do bands have an order to be saved?
With the family of the principle scenario during an incident you will be fighting with your conscience, morals and your duty if females or children are involved. When faced with this situation on previous jobs the TL has directed 1 of the CP team to take charge of wife and/or child why the rest of the team deal with the principle if an incident was to occur (all down to planning) another TL arranged for a second team to tpt family seperately, if manpower was available.

CO 19

The task in Iraq with 1 principle why was that not a CP task your answer suggests that you consider it a PSD task?

looking forward to both your replies

Somedays it was one person, somedays it was upto 4 max, for cross decking perposes. Some days I would be going 20 miles other days 200/300 miles. My team did more milage than any of the other team on the project which was as many as 15 teams at one stage.

I would sgree with CO19 re the statement that being good at one style does not always mean your suited to the other...
Sat dining with 'boss' in Petrus.. In comes a large, obvious team with their principal.... Soon their table looks like something from a cookhouse... 'racing spoons and crude jokes included... Suitable behaviour for that environment?

After leaving the ol man asks who they were.. Our driver states he had talked to their drivers whilst waiting, who had said they all normaly worked psd, but 'fancied a change'

Both the exact same thing. The reason this phraseology came to be was due to the septic tanks and their inability to think outside the box.

Picture the scene...

CP team approaches US Embassy and US guard wants a face to face.

"Hi there" says the TL "we're so and so's CP team we have an appointment with the ambassador"

"I'm sorry sir, I do not recognise that phrase you cannot enter" says the guard.

"Ok then" says the TL "we're so and so's PSD, we have an appointment with the ambassador"

"Go right ahead sir, and have a nice day YAWL" says the guard.

This phraseology then became the norm with all nationalities CP teams as it was the wording that the yanks recognised and eased passage. This has since been brought home and is being used in training as most newbies are going to work in Iraq/Afghanistan anyway.

Prior to Iraq and the security boom "CP team" was recognised, used and accepted by all nationalities except the Yanks and Canadians who have always used the PSD phrase.

What pains me is the way all nationalities including us Brits now run around looking like the PSD's always have OTT. On numerous occassions my lads have been inside a venue with the boss, whilst roger ramjet stands outside fiddling with his new sight on his M4.

Close Protection personnell should be taught Protocol and etiquette on their basic CP course it is a basic skill however is extremely important. For someone to think that PSD (read Close Protection Team) all pile into restaurants then they are sadly mistaken and again following the OTT crowd. This shows poor training, no confidence in one-anothers skill set and not being able to think outside the box!!! There is virtually no requirement for any more than 2 in a restaurant with the remainder DISCREETLY securing outside.

If the enemy cannot see you he cannot kill you,

Like I said " CP team and PSD same thing, the only difference is ego size and who you want to look like....

To follow on with the Brits following the Spetics - I see now all Bridagiers and above now wear stars on ther lappel so the spectics can work out how important the officer is. i.e 1 star to 4 star.

I had to change CP team to GOC MND(SE) to PSD for CG Multi National Division (South East) as the Yanks didn't know about anything which wasn't in their back yard. Nor did they understand TLA's
