Currently we are seeking to fill a number of forthcoming appointments for the FCO. MinimalRisk (MRC) is contracted to maintain a cadre of Overseas Security Managers (OSM) and Deputy Security Managers (DSM) for the UK Government in Afghanistan and Iraq plus other hi-risk regions rotating on a 6-8 weekly basis providing continual Security Management cover. Individual contracts will be issued & managed by MRC to include administration such as insurance & travel.

The OSM/DSM is the focus for all security matters, advising the contracted security teams as required on Government Policy. He or she will develop and implement the security infrastructure and systems, reporting directly to the respective Head of Mission and senior FCO Security Management team in London.

The OSM /DSM will be responsible for regular communication and liaison with the key military organisations, security contractors and NGOs. The OSM/DSM will undertake continuous risk analysis of all areas of the operation. This will include site and operational security.

Interviews will take place in London towards the end of February. Successful applicants will be required to attend a pre deployment course in UK and be security cleared to DV level prior to deployment.

Apply via the link below if you wish to be considered and are available for interview in Febuary or wish to be informed of similar positions.

Ideal applicants are former UK Military Officers with Command or Staff experience (SO2, SO3) in hostile environments who have held rank of Capt/Major or equivalent and, ideally, some commercial experience of hostile environments.

neiljordan will become famous soon enough
No, providing you get your tax free status approved through the Tax Office your earnings will be tax free as you are not an employee of the FCO.
Where the word 'ideally' is mentioned, for commercial experience, it really doesn't matter ( I know people doing the job who left the Army and joined straight away) , for the 'rank' it means, may be a Lt or upwards of Major. It does not mean Non-Commissioned, no matter how much better your experience is. I know, I applied for the role in 06 and have considerable experience within the FCO system, daily briefing the Head of Mission, etc, as do many of my ex-colleagues, however, none of that matters if you haven't been commissioned. When I applied the 'rank' was never mentioned in the job description and something that MR would not admit to being a major factor for the role.
Ironic really, when you think that the same job in Sierra Leone is now done by an ex SSgt from the Int Corps, used to be a Sgt from the R. Sigs and in Malawi, it's an ex SSgt RLC's position at the moment. These jobs anywhere else in the world are filled with ex SNCO's and WO's, the officers being employed at Overseas Security Advisor level (OSA) based out of London. It's interesting though that these positions have a high turnover of personnel to be advertised as often as they appear to be?

Neil....you couldn't have put it better. I can't understand why ex officers have to be used......its like saying ex sas should be used or ex Rmp CP (of which i am) but hey, if you haven't got the experience then what is the point. I would rather work with someone thats done it, rather than someone thats trained to do it but never done it.
