This is something I dont understand? Why have a sia aproved course if the contracting companies only accept training from certain schools?
And for work in Iraq and Afghanistan its not even requirements for SIA.. I dont have a SIA licens and dont have any interest at all to work in UK, but have interest to go back to Iraq. I know the UK companies with want to have the standard of SIA however why not then approve all training organisations? For us with Europen standard or foreign licenses and with Middle East experience we really dont have any alternatives..its up to thease 4 companies I find this very strange.. hawk |

Hi hawk!
I totally agree with you. The whole story hanging around sia is such a diffrent thing. I hold a SIA licence but I do not think so there is a key to success.Iraqe is not like a play game, it is still war zone and if somebody decides to get there must be aware what is really going on there. Let's be honest, Even 3 weeks training with the best company in this area is not enough to give you guarantee you will survive or not to get mad. |

I Posted this WHEN I was with HART in December last year......
John McVey isn't even with Hart anymore.... I love this site :-) REF sia: Its called a 'standard,' as there are only a few recognized standards worldwide, we demanded - for our clients and insurers some formal qualification in Close Protection, beyond that of front-line military experience - hence, the advert was aimed at a UK audience, the SIA being the recognized standard in the region. Regards |

With regards to courses that companies look for, I completed The Nemesis Group Ltd course that is sia recognised. I never seem to see this CP course trainers recognised. Why is that? It is a very good course and the intructors are excellent. And one of the directors was the original founder of Pheonix CP. Granted I don't have an SF background, but I have served in Iraq with the army. I understand that this really doesn't hold much credit in todays ever expanding Psd market. I'm trying to get out to the Middle East myself and am finding it very difficult and frustrating. But hey thats just the way things are today. I'm forever searching for PSD work and will continue to till I get that lucky break.

Guys, Phoenix do not exist anymore but the Nemesis course has pretty much superseeded it. It seems the Nemesis course does not get the recognition it deserves. It is a good length (4 weeks) and usually has between 8 to 12 students. It also has extreamly prestigous instructors which can be viewed on the website.
I realise this mirrors mad1's post but i hope it helps to give more awareness of an excellent service. |

hi guys
the Pheonix company was bought over by armour group to "churn "out sia bodies or they would loose iraq contracts and has since ceased to exist |

I have been saying on this forum for ages about the varying standards of the training providers out there. I am glad someone has mentioned this also. The sia lic is the minimum standard required, companies are aware of this and are now demanding that people are trained by quality providers. I liken it to having the same degree from either a top 5 Uni or a unknown college.
I echo Vlaznim's comments from Hart that companies are selctiong those trained by either Longmoor Group, Anubis or Ronin SA. |
