I'm sat here typing this in Abu Grabe on my 4th year in Iraq..is there more to life? or does having Iraq on your CV mean no companies will touch you for work anywhere else in world other than this stinking hole?

All the best.

Keep your head up Lee (or down for that matter) While we can't predict the future, you're picking up some skillsets that can translate into other markets you just have to seek out those opportunities.

Good luck!

Roadhog will become famous soon enough
Lee, keep you head up bro. There is life after Iraq, but you need to look at working on translating your Iraq experience into certificates- employers back in the world love certificates. Look at getting your sia CP( if you haven't already)- it's a different level of CP, but it will allow you to get other work- also look at professional or educational qualifications ASIS CPP, PSP, or MSC Security Management. There are also always jobs going in Africa and South America, if you know the right people so networking time.
Good luck mate.

Hi mate,

I am desperately trying to get out there!! Want to swap.

16 years in the Police and just been sacked for punching a drug dealer, or two!

14 years Military, 2 years Rmp CP, Police firearms and I cant get work anywhere.

Fit as a butchers dog, and still up to scratch on weapons, ops planning etc.

Look mate, its shit back here, stay put and save and study, do that consultancy course!!

Stay safe mate

John

A good thing you brought up here, alot of military, police and private security operatives is leaving the normal industry to take on jobs in Iraq, mainly for its where the ultimate skills and where all thease years of training is proven, and ofcourse for the money.
However alot of corporate companies even some countries dont want to touch you after Iraq.

Myself I have been in Iraq, and for me it was the best I ever did.
For me this is where I want to work for a few years. I am still trying to get back but its not easy the american companies wount take you on if not US citizen.

For the majority if not extremly well conected the future is in hostile zones.
But you have gained skills, developed a network..
With your skills and experience I would say training , or given lectures from your own experiences.

Or make another turn and move in to studying as other have wrote.

As you are trying to leave , some of us are trying to get back and others to get in for the first time.

Just remember if people would like to work for ex the Saudi Royal family in UK or to go into Saudi Arabia and work with security or safety you will be refused to enter.

I personally know firends that has removed it from there Cvs..and asked for a new passport.

I wish you the best of luck

Lee my husband just finished out in Iraq after 4 years, and is waiting for his licence (it may be a while haha).

There is life after Iraq, just may be tricky to find your niche but as someone said you have had an opportunity that many of us would have loved to have had, and learned some important skills along the way.

Study and diversification to use those skills back in a Uk based market is the best way to go.

But then i am biased as he is my husband and i am enjoying having him home for more than 3 weeks at a time...... there are some benefits

Guys , i know the feeling , i spent 3 years out in the pit and came home due to the long haired general, i have retrained as a driving instructor and although its 25 quid an hour i still miss the craic and the money the pit offered ,
but with 3 kids to feed and mortgage to be paid we all have to do what it takes.
i have CP licence and went to local employer to drive unmarked cp cars with vip's for local government £7.50 - £9.00 an hour ....what an insult so hence me telling them to shove it.
best off luck
